Log Bandar - The Laughing Monkey

The patron god of the Vanara and perhaps the most mischevious god worshipped on The Shattered Continent, Log Bandar believes that humor can be both the solution to and cause of all of lifes problems, and therefore it should be used as often as possible to keep things interesting.

History

Said to have been born as a normal but unusually curious and mischevious monkey, Log Bandar is believed to be the only god to have created a species before he ascended to godhood, pranking a god in the process. The vanara have many tales of their god's exploits, all of which they love to tell, but their favorite by far is the tale of his ascension to godhood and creation of their people.

Origins

One day, as a young monkey, he witnessed a great royal procession moving through the forests he called home, and being a particularly curious young monkey, he found himself unable to resist investigating it. As he drew closer, mesmerized by the fluttering banners, glittering gold decorations, and brilliantly colored fabrics, he caught an irresistible scent floating on the wind and followed his nose to a great cloth covered wagon towards the end of the procession.

Stealthily making his way aboard, he found to his delight that it was loaded with foods of all sorts, delicacies from all over the world, and he began to feast. A bite from this, a nibble of that, he could hardly start on one food before another caught his eye, and then finally he found the source of the delicious scent that had drawn him there in the first place, a massive clay jug with its cover ajar. As he leaned over it, the wagon hit a bump and he tumbled into the jug, finding himself immersed in its contents and in danger of drowning in the delicious palm wine that it contained. Realizing that he had to act fast or he would expire, he began to drink for his life and was soon passed out at the bottom of a bone dry jug.

Unbeknownst to the young monkey, the procession that he had so brashly invaded was that of a mighty god whose name has been long lost to time, and by the time he was awakened by the wagon pulling to a stop, they were within the god's palace, high in the mountains. Frightened by the situation that he found himself in, and nursing a frightful hangover, he made his way into the rafters of the palace and began looking for some food and drink to help relieve the symptoms of his overindulgence. Before long, his nose once again found a strange smell on the wind, and drew him to a window high up on the palace walls.

Looking down from the small window he perched in he saw a room filled with bubbling couldrons, mysterious ingredients, and intriguing smells. In the center of the room sat a massive couldron, bubbling slowly, with a gaudily dressed figure stirring it. Log Bandar snuck down from the window and began investigating, finding himself drawn to the large glass beakers that were lined up on a table behind the brewer. A small furry hand reached up from beneath the table, groped around for a moment, then grabbed the first flask and pulled it beneath the table. A moment later the flask was returned with a little less in it than before just in time for the figure to turn, grab it and pour a small amount into his couldron, muttering "Essence of curiosity, not too much".

While his back was turned, the scene repeated itself again with the second flask "Infusion of Form of Man, odd, I though this one had more in it..." he muttered as Bandar drank from the third mixture, realizing as he placed it back that he could see the top of the table without stretching now.

"Elixir of Intelligence, can't have stupid servants after all" he said as he carefully measured out the glittering golden liquid. It was at this point that Log Bandar realized that the little squiggles that were written on the beakers had meaning, and he quickly swapped one labeled 'Concentrate of Submission' with one labeled 'Extract of Freedom', taking a deep swig before ducking back below the table. "Can't be having servants full of rebellious thoughts, can we" chuckled the god as he poured a generous dose into the couldron, thought for a second, and poured a bit more in "No need to take any chances".

"Now, just a little bit of divine power and my new servants should burst forth, fully formed and ready to serve" exclaimed the god as he began to pour his magic into the couldron, now at a roiling boil and shining with light. It was at this moment that Log Bandar, having just taken a swig from a bottle labeled 'Tincture of Mischief', somersaulted over the god's head, and landed on the back edge of the couldron, pouring the remainder of the bottle into it right before the deities horrified eyes. With an explosion of golden smoke people began to pour out of the couldron, all with monkeylike features from the contamination that Log Bandar left in the bottles he drank from.

The newly formed Vanara began running about the laboratory with wide, curious eyes, inspecting everything, spilling ingredients and reagents, knocking delicate instruments aside and generally making a tremendous mess. As the god looked around in despair, his eyes fell upon the instigator of the chaos standing before a great mirror flexing and making silly faces. "YOU!" howled the god as he drew on his power and prepared to smite the impudent primate; Log Bandar spun around, wiggled his eyebrows at the furious deity, and drained the last drops from a bottle with 'essence of divinity' scrawled on the side of it. As a bolt of pure power flew at him, he jumped into the air and allowed it to fly between his legs and hit the mirror behind him, rebounding and striking the unfortunate god directly in the groin. As the divine being collapsed onto the floor groaning, Log Bandar lead his newly formed people out of the window and down to the jungles far below.

Worship

Worshipped nearly exclusively by the vanara, Log Bandar isn't the kind of god who requires extravagant temples and stodgy priests tending to their flocks. He much prefers his followers to show their devotion to him by going out into the world, traveling, meeting new people, and spreading good humor; if they play a few pranks and upset boring and stuffy people in the process all the better.
