Fhaarauth - Nature's Might
Teriethae may have led us in our naive youth, but Fhaarauth is the god of a race whose eyes have been opened to the brutality of an ungrateful world.
Currently regarded as the main god of the elven people, Fhaarauth is one of the two primary gods of the elven pantheon along with his wife Terithae. Representing the primal strength and destructive power of nature, the worship of Fhaarauth, once nearly totally abandoned, has become dominant within the surviving enclaves of the elven people. A tiny fraction of their former numbers, and reduced to a relatively small number of cities across the continent, Fhaarauth represents the strength that they aspire to regain and believe that they will need to survive in a much changed world.
History
As a god representing the descructive aspect of nature, Fhaarauth was once worshipped alongside his wife and opposing aspect Teriethae as the primary gods of the elven people. By the peak of the elven civilization, worship of Fhaarauth had been largely abandoned, seen as a remnant of the elves more primitive and violent past. While rangers and the few remaining elven tribes who still lived deep in the wilds still commonly worshipped him, he had been largely supplanted among the "civilized" elves by Teriethae with her focus on the nurturing, lifegiving aspects of nature.
With the rise of the serpentfolk and the slow collapse of the elven civilization that followed, many pampered, city dwelling elves were reintroduced to the brutality and unforgiving nature of the world. Adoption of the more martial god was only natural as the elves were plunged into war, and the more obvious it became that they were losing, the more elves abandoned the worship of Teriethae for Fhaarauth. After the cataclysm, the unceremonious rejection of the delegations sent to the burgeoning human kingdoms served as the final death knell for the widespread worship of Teriethae, cementing Fhaarauth as the primary god of the elven people.
