Welcome to the Kingdom of Eryndor, a realm rich in history, legend, and hidden secrets.  

History

  It is told that long ago, the world was ruled by the Old Gods, beings of immense power who wielded foul magics and controlled the fate of mortals. The people suffered under their rule, plagued by disasters and war, until the First King rose from the ashes of despair. According to legend, he led a great crusade, banishing the gods and their magic, bringing peace to humanity. Upon his death, he is said to have ascended to godhood, becoming the Ascendant, protector of the realm. The royal family claim to be his direct descendants, carrying on his divine legacy as rulers of the kingdom.  

Government

  Eryndor’s government is a feudal monarchy, where the King rules alongside the Grand Council, a body of nobles, guild leaders, and other powerful factions. This council represents the various interests of the kingdom, including the influential Merchants' Guild, which controls much of the kingdom’s trade, and the Church of the Ascendant, the dominant religious institution. Beneath the surface, tensions simmer between these factions, each vying for control and influence, while the common people live largely unaware of the remnants of the ancient magic said to be long gone.  

Magic

  In this setting, magic is considered a myth. Although legends and rumors persist of ancient powers wielded by the Old Gods, for the vast majority of the population, magic has become little more than stories told around campfires. The Church of the Ascendant teaches that the Ascendant’s victory removed magic from the world, and now it is believed to be long dead. Your characters will live in a low-magic world, where most people see magic as superstition or heresy, and there is no open practice of the arcane. Should magic exist, it is hidden, feared, and dangerous—an ancient power lurking just beneath the surface of reality.
