Gem Lords

The Gem Lords govern the entire mine; there are four that are elected every twenty years. Each one is assigned to an area of the dwarven culture. The Diamond Lord is in charge of the defense of the mine. The Ruby Lord is in charge of the mining operation. The Sapphire lord is in charge of agriculture. Finally, the Pearl Lord is in charge of relations with the wizards.   Every twenty-five years there is an election among the dwarves to see who is elected to the council. This is purely based on merit and abilities. Popularity and campaigning has no influence on the election results. In fact the dwarves do not even campaign to get elected, it is considered bad form.

History

The Council was formed in the year 180 when the 40 dwarves of the mines decided that they needed structure and organization to run their lives. At first no dwarf wanted to responsibility, most were only interested in mining and forging.

Territories

The dwarves control some of the mountain range that the mine entrance is located. Their control also extends beneath the land of the Isle of Mystrium. While it is unsubstantiated, and the dwarves will never reveal the truth, it is believed that they have tunnels that go all over the island.

Military

20 guards serve the population of the mines under the command of the Diamond Lord. When there are external threats to the mines, every dwarf except the very old or young, and the master blacksmiths are called up to service.
