Teosanu Character in Ersetu in the Age of Heroes | World Anvil

Teosanu

King of the Gods Teosanu

Teosanu is the titular king of the gods. His authority comes from his ability to conduct politics as much as his might as the first to regain true power. He is wed to Antu, though the two dislike each other. He is considered the god of sky and storms, of eagles and of royalty. He teaches mankind little, preferring to keep technology and magic in the hands of the elite.

Personal history

Teosanu was one of the last gods  to be born from Yaldaboath. Initially, he was charged with taming the atmosphere of the world. He pierced the crust of the world with his spear and shepherded the gasses into the stratosphere. With the world on its course to the right pressure, he began to dream.   In reality, he spent more time surfing the winds and exploring than he ever did on his task even when there was work to do. His favorite form in those days was of a massive eagle. He spoke with the other gods, forging friendships and discussing their condition. He agitated for a new purpose, one that he himself would dictate. When the gods peopled the world with the primordial beings and precursor civilization, Teosanu interacted with them in a way that the others initially did not. He celebrated life with them, drinking and reveling and fighting until even he was fatigued.     From the progenitor races he spawned a score or more of the first Demigods, and these beings caused so much havoc and disruption that they were slain by the other gods and their champions. Teosanu didn't care, he simply moved on and continued his celebrations.    When mankind came, he seamlessly continued his wild expressions of joy. He was given dominion over the land of Mu , and he began to erect monuments to his own exploits. He developed a particular taste for human women, and began to collect a sizable harem. They loved him, feared him, and worshipped him as he encouraged them to do. He shared with them divine knowledge, and they were repaid for their loyalty with power on Ersetu. As the power and awe focused attention on Teosanu, he noticed the power he had almost forgotten returning. He encouraged the worship, both in volume and intensity, and began to develop his powers and dogma with as much secrecy as he could manage. Being a grandiose and proud divinity, he failed to keep the secret for long and both Antu and Nabuset discovered his activities and began to emulate his cult antics. Seeing potential rivals, Teosanu erupted with jealous fury and forbade their cults in any city where his own held sway. This caused a reciprocal purging of his cults by the others, and he felt the lessening of his own ill-gotten divinity. Mu geared up for war. The final spark was a betrayal by his consort Nin'Meter, who fled his control and sought shelter with Antu.   The wars between the gods were brutal, free-for-all affairs at first. The whole world fought and killed and died for scraps of land a few leagues wide and hundreds died for control of populations measured in the dozens. When Teosanu began to lose, he reached out to those other gods who had been his friends. Uridimmu, Inannona, Su'Enanna, and the majority of his spawn joined under his banner and formed the largest armies of the war.    In the end, a peace accord was established between the three belligerents. Antu would be married to Teosanu, and Nabuset was forced into compliance under threat of the combined might of the new king and queen of the gods. The lack of concessions would forever stick in Nabuset's craw.    After the war, Teosanu assigned himself god of storms, wind, and sky, and of all humanity. He forced the other gods to promise to ask before bestowing gifts to humanity. Thus establishing his supremacy, he rapidly became the most personally powerful of all the gods.
