Thringon-dim

The Thringon-dim, translating to "Throng of the Holds", is the name given to the collective armed forces of the Dwarven Dominion. Unlike the conventional standing armies of the Midaevian Empire, the Thringon-dim is composed of multiple smaller armies called "Hold Companies". 
Each Hold Company is formed on an ad-hoc basis. In times of war, the neighbourhoods, or "Holds", of the two dwarven Karaths, issue general musters, calling all dwarves to their local Mustering Grounds. These Hold Companies are organised according to the leadership of officers and non-commissioned officers trained by the Iron Estate. After war ends, these Companies dissolve, and their troops return to their usual vocations. 

Although most Hold Companies do not remain in formation after the end of a war, there are a few exceptions to this rule. The Dominion can at all times call upon the services of two permanently standing units; the Bzarod-shokul (Border Guard) and the Rugnzim-zarag (Mountain Rangers).
