Fort Blackrot
Before the third war of the Northern Conquests, Fort Blackrot was nothing more than a fortified mine owned by Olto Grubarson, a minor theign. With the onset of the Rape of Ordayn, the encampment received an influx of hundreds of refugees seeking to flee the violence. As Theign Olto was one of the few Ordaynian noblemen to submit to the Empire and King Rordin, his estate was not targeted for retribution by the 4th Legion.
Taking advantage of this sudden growth in population, he quickly set the war-weary people to work expanding his iron mine. The settlement itself grew like fungus around the site. Some people made homes for themselves in the mine's various disused tunnels, others constructed a shanty-town above ground.
Given its central location and reputation for security; or at least, as much security as one could hope to find in post-war Ordayn, the town soon become the region's trade hub, as hardened merchants braved the bandit-infested roads to offload their goods.
Within three years, a bustling, if miserable-looking town had emerged. Theign Olto moved his hall on top of the mine, so he could better protect his resource and oversee his new subjects.
