Conclave

Following the Northern Conquests, magic-users across North Erru suddenly found themselves to be an endangered breed. Fearing the wrath of the Imperial Praefects , Kings handed over long-serving Court Wizards, villagers turned in local wisewomen, and once proud and ancient organisations such as the Society of Magic were destroyed by Imperial forces. Facing extinction, the magic-users of the Northern Kingdoms went underground, hiding in plain sight while practising their arts in cellars and sewers, or abandoning civilisation altogether, sequestering themselves in the forests and mountains and isolated places of the world.   While many were despondent and gave up any thought of returning to ordinary life, some chose to resist the Empire, banding together in a loose confederacy that became known as the Conclave. The goals of the Conclave are simple; to throw all their remaining strength behind any and all resistance movements with the eventual aim of liberating the Northern Kingdoms and restoring their place in society. Unsurprisingly, their leaders are some of the Ministry of Enlightenment’s primary target. A task force of nullifiers, assassins and Praefects, based in Shereford, has been assembled specifically for the purpose of hunting down all its members. Many of the Conclave’s leaders feature heavily on wanted posters all across the Northern Kingdoms, and some of the most profitable contracts currently available to The Freelancers Guild focus on their capture and elimination.   Leadership and Membership   Leading the Conclave is none other than Grimnabus Frankenwort, the former Court Wizard of the Kingdom of Merelia, infamous for having faced and killed a Praefect. Other famous figures include the druid sisters Aine and Ailbhe, half-orc warlock Lushgdam Thrice-Widowed, and the Sudyrian necromancer Ahras Szulem. Given the obvious restrictions on recruitment, it can be difficult to safely induct new members to the Conclave, which makes it equally difficult to determine how many members the Conclave has.   Headquarters   Despite uncovering several lesser cells, the location of the Conclave’s base of operations has long eluded the Ministry of Enlightenment. It has become such a source of frustration to them that they have gone so far as to offer a Đ100’000 reward for any information leading to its discovery, enough for someone to buy themselves land and title.
