Alfar

The Alfar have lived in the Cradled Mountains for generations without much outside interaction, short of trade with other nations. Alfar history states this began about the time of the Zenithian Ritual Wars. Over the last generation the Alfar reached out from their self imposed solitude, making alliances and searching for lost and ancient lore. The many years of seclusion from the outside world have amplified their peoples usual mentality of valuing tradition and ceremony.   At birth, Alfar have a faint birthmark that settles them into one of several subcategories, and this mark defines over their youth until it is sharply visible by the time they reach the age of union, the Alfar's age of physical maturity. Alfar born with a radiant sun on their forehead are the Ljosalfar, or Sun Elves. These alfar have glistening skin, and often grow into a charismatic and wise personality, as well as an affinity for music and spiritual magic. Alfar born with a crescent moon on their forehead are called the Dokkalfar, or Moon Elves. The Dokkalfar have pale, ashen skin, and often grow in a terse, or pragmatic personality, and often have a talent for dextrous displays and arcane magic.   *Since the exploration of Terra Nova, a group of Alfar known as the Svartalfar have been met, living in tandem with the Isatum. Many of these alfar have begun to return home to Alfheimr, bringing their own talents and generations of experience in Terra Nova to their ancestral home to benefit their people, even raclaiming the seat on the Triumvirate that had been previously been occupied by the ceremonial role of "Petitioner of Fate".   Alfar tend to value expertise in a field, and it is rare to find one who is not currently excelling at a craft. Once they set themselves to a task or study they pursue it with unwavering determination. For such a long lived race, change can be hard for an Alfar, and it is rare for them to deviate from a path. This has made it hard for Alfar raised in Alfeihmr to adapt to life outside the city. However, those who decide to leave at a younger age have found ways to adapt and are usually drawn to cities and regions that are upwardly mobile with plenty of opportunities to learn and train.   Traditionally, in their native home of Alfheimr, young Alfar are apprenticed to a specific calling until they are of the age of union, where they become independent and make their own way in the world. Many native Alfar permanently join the Delphic or Ruck orders, while those raised in other Kingdoms similarly dedicate themselves to a single lifestyle, as opposed to flitting from occupation to occupation. These lifestyles tend to reflect the birthmark that rest on the foreheads of the Alfar, but there have been exceptions to this alignment of birth and personality.
