Jotunar Glossary:

Althing:

A particularly large gathering across several villages or regions.  

Bressekkir:

A free warrior who is in the service to a Jarl. These can either be mercenaries or warriors permanently in the service of a Jarl  

Drakkar:

The famous longships of Jotunar. Used for sailing, raiding, and trading across the various islands and beyond.  

Draugr:

The opposite of an Einherjar. These are the dishonorably dead warriors that reside in Helheim. Hel will use them as her army when Ragnarök breaks out.  

Einherjar:

Noble warriors selected by the Valkyrie and taken to Asgard. There they eat, enjoy life, and train for when they are to be called on to do battle in Ragnarök.  

Graskinna:

A book of dark magic bound in human skin. These are feared and known to contain dark and terrible power.  

Holmgang:

An honor duel between two belligerents. The ultimate way to settle a dispute when all else has failed. This is traditionally fought in a square of fresh-cut hazel rods.  

Hyrd:

Warriors in the personal service of a Thane, Jarl, or King/Queen. The warriors act as their personal guards.  

Jarl:

A ruler over a larger amount of land, that includes multiple villages, the ruler of a major city, or the captain of a large mercenary company or clan. The equivalent of Ealr of Baron on the continent. Also known as "Ring Givers" for their role as dispensers of honors and treasure.  

Knarr:

Wide sea-going trade vessels, distinct from the sleek raiding vessels that are feared far and wide.  

Raudskinna:

A book of magic that is bound in magical leather made from a great beast. These are rare and sought-after artifacts.  

Skal:

A greeting or cheers, it means "to your health."  

The Fird:

The peasant and part-time warriors and fighters that can be called upon by a Jarl either in the defense of their home or during the three months of campaign season each year.  

Thing(pronounced 'ting'):

Any large gathering. Things are periodically called to settle disputes both great and small as well as for joyous occasions.  

Thrall:

An indentured servant taken in a raid. If the person is paying off a debt then they are returned to citizen status once the debt is cleared. For those taken in raids, they can be granted their freedom by their masters or earned after 7 years of servitude.  

Thane:

Any land-owning individual who rules land that others live on and work. This title can also apply to those that hold political status and fight professionally. The equivalent of Lord on the continent.

Thrallsekkir:

A thrall that fights for their Jarl. These warriors are used by Jarls mostly as oarsmen and scouts. For every campaign season survived an additional year is knocked off their service.  

Valkyrie:

Warrior women in the service to Odin and Freya. They shepherd the souls of honorable warriors to either Valhalla or Folkvangr where they become Einherjar.  

Weregild:

A blood debt owed to the family of an individual or the owner of a piece of livestock that was killed unjustly.  

Yggdrasil:

The great tree that connects the nine realms. It is watered by the Norns who live in its roots. They water it from the well of Urd which Odin drank from to gain all wisdom.
