Frenilston
The city of Life, Frenilston is known as being the least arid of the cities - maintaining noticeable humidity almost all the way to the next Sourcefall. In addition to being the Capitol of Trichtania and home to the nation's democratic processes, Frenilston is also home to significantly more Spikeballs, a sort of combination between hedgehogs and cacti, than voting citizens.
These Spikeballs take advantage of the Sourcefall to absorb as much as they possibly can, bloating their bodies with the excess of water stored within. Over the coming weeks, they will slowly expend their cache and they will return to their default smaller sizes, their skin slowly shrinking down and exposing the razor sharp spines that poke out from their backs. While glutted, these small creatures enjoy wandering, exploring their surroundings and seeking repositories of water from which they can absorb. As they run out, they become increasingly immobile, until they remain stuck in place like particuarly spiny barnacles waiting for the coming rain.
The pervasive belief among locals is that the Spikes are in some way responsible for the uniquely palatable climate of Frenilston, although some skeptics believe it's innate to the region and the Spikeballs simply knew where to congregate. Either way, the creature is held in high regard within the city, and the residents make no moves to limit the population beyond learning rather quickly to guard their water more closely than most Trichtans need to.
The town itself is large and sprawling, with distinct upper- and lower-class regions. Upper-class regions feature more infrastructure (both mechanical and magical) for maintaining large quantities of water during the drought, allowing for features such as ponds and fountains and vegetated parks (all suitably protected against the ravishings of Spikeballs) while lower-class regions tend more towards public spaces being sand-gardens, where they even exist.
