Saranoril

Saranoril rises, shining and bright from the floor of the elven plains, its tall ancient spires reflecting the sunlight and reflecting it down into the city streets below. It is this second hand light that sustains the majority of citizens in this rapidly growing metropolis, as they scurry along newly made alleys and passages of this ancient city. The lords live and laugh in the lofty palaces and stroll along elevated walkways and in hanging gardens while the workers toil in shade and torchlight.
Once wide streets have been split in two by hastily constructed homes and shopfronts, and the mighty walls have been dismantled to fuel the construction of new building and free the restraints on the growing population. Saranoril is a city of change and diversity yet, in the minds of the enduring elves, it is still entrenched in the hierarchy of the past.

Demographics

The majority of the population are elves, including almost the entirety of its upper class. There are also many humans, gnomes, halflings and a few dwarves, though the largest non-elven group are the Lizards, who are used as slave labour throughout the city.

Government

The city is effectively run by the wealthiest and most powerful elven lords of the region. They use their influence to control events within the city for their own gain. The Grand Counselor has little interest in the goings on if the metropolis, and rarely visits from the Golden Isle, leaving the lords to do as they will.

Assets

Built between the Roaming Marsh and the Twilight Wood, Saranoril has little material wealth to offer. However, it is a major trade hub within the realm and its selection of diverse citizens include many great inventors, schemers and artisans

History

Saranoril was once a small ancient elven city, occupied by only a few inhabitants too stubborn to leave. But with the sudden expansion of the Elven Realm during the age of foundation, Saranoril found itself in a key geopolitical position. Soon the city was filled swiftly becoming overcrowded, prompting the hurried construction of new dwellings seen today.
