Vogrhian Yak Leather

Properties

Material Characteristics

Voigrhian Yak Leather is leather made from the hide of the Vogrhian Yak. It is a dark grey-ish beige coloured leather that is slightly thicker and slightly tougher than regular leather.

Physical & Chemical Properties

The leather is slightly thicker than regular leather, meaning it is more durable than normal leather. The leather is slightly tougher on top of that, meaning that it is a popular choice for making armour that covers large areas of the body. Due to the added thickness and toughness however, Vigrhian Yak leather is also slightly less flexible than regular leather, so the trade off is durability at the cost of mobility.

Geology & Geography

This leather is made from the hides of the Vogrhian Yak which can be found roaming the valleys and plains between the mountains of Vogrhia. The animals have also been domesticated so the hides are often collected from animals that have been slaughtered for meat.

History & Usage

History

Vogrhian Yak Leather had been used throughout the history of Vogrhia. The dwarves who first hunted, then domesticated the animal have always used the skin of the animal for clothing. At first it was rough furs, but the process was gradually refined into leather making and is now used in everything from armour to shoes to belts.

Discovery

It was first discovered by the first settlers of Vogrhia as they hunted the yaks for food. The furry hides helped keep the settlers warm.

Everyday use

It is most commonly used in clothing an armour, but is also used in wrapping sword handles and making straps for shields and bags.

Cultural Significance and Usage

The leather is a staple of the Vogrhian dwarves. Both the surface dwelling hill dwarves and the subterranean mountain dwarves, it is an important material to them. The leather is less commonly used outside of Vogrhia, as the Yaks are almost endemic to the region, but the leather is sought after by traders and craftsmen outside of Vogrhia due to its durability.
