Massacre of Demenia

Demenia a was a relatively small town thirty miles north of Pealham, in the Black Hall prefecture. It was also the location chosen by diplomats on both sides of the Fenixian War For Independence as a place to meet and discuss peace terms.
However, the leaders of the Republican Army had no intention of forming any peace accord. Through covert work they had captured twenty men leading the Republican side of the rebellion, including Alfonse Fenix himself. Faced with the execution of himself and the rest of his compatriots Fenix chose to sell out his Letian allies to the Magi Republican forces. With the guidance of the Magi leadership Fenix helped lay a trap for the Letian leadership, and any rebel leaders who hadn't been swept up by the Republic beforehand.
Right from the start things did not go as planned. Vulcan Kerendas, the main target for the ambush, wasn't in Demenia. He had been recalled to Lete to brief the King on his progress. He had also taken several of the rebel leaders with him. On top of that Princess Illianna Redheart, the youngest daughter of the King of Lete, was present in Vulcan's stead; the woman having spent several years working as an envoy and diplomat on behalf of the King. The Republican forces opted to continue with the plan despite missing their main target and used great magic to firebomb the entire town. No one in the town survived. Republican commanders even sacrificed some of their own men for the ruse. All that was left of the town of Demenia was a blackened field and rubble.
The massacre ultimately leads to a large commitment of Letian forces seeking justice for the murder of the Princess and brings about the end of the war. The Empire of Demenia is named in honor of the town as a reminder of those who sacrificed their lives for freedom and peace.
