Spirits of the North - Major Goliath Religion

Being natives to the frozen northlands, goliaths have taken to honouring the elemental spirits of water, earth, air, and fire. Every autumn, before the deadly winter, goliath tribes leave offerings to the spirits of Talir and Olir, the spirits of water and air respectively. The offerings can be anything but mostly involve food or treasure of some kind, presented at the Shrine of Water and Shrine of Air, both far to the north.   The goliaths believe that should Talir and Olir accept the offerings, the brutality of the winter months will be eased, giving them a stronger chance of making it through. Every year, the offerings become larger and it always seems to be denied as winter continues to be brutal, sending many a goliath to their death. Some goliaths have turned from the two spirits, believing them to be evil and greedy. These goliaths prefer to focus on Rathir and Kaldira, the spirits of fire and earth who are both necessary to provide the warmth and comfort through the deadly winters.
Rathir, the Spirit of Fire and Kaldira, the Spirit of Earth have long been viewed as the "good" spirits, as without fire, wood and stone, the winter would take all goliaths. However the other two spirits are still venerated for water is a necessity of life as well and without air, no life would exist. Goliaths just believe the water and air spirits are more fickle than the other two. But they are all necessary for the survival of the tribe.
