Mithsran, Sword of Shadows

Written by Salen

Mithsran, the Sword of Shadows, is truly an ancient blade. It was rumored to have been forged in dragonfire, which everyone knows is impossible since dragons are only the thing of stories and tales. The blade is mentioned in tales and stories dating back centuries and even the oldest of elves have only ever heard the tales second hand. It's mystique and rarity elude even the oldest of spells to divine its location, thus adding to the tale of it only being fable.

History

The blade was first forged eons ago by the first elves to come here, arriving on the heels of their goddess from a dying world. They crafted the blade in honor of their new found land and upon meeting the first of the mighty dragons, they used it to forge an alliance of sorts with those great beasts. To solidify their agreement, the dragons bathed the blade in dragons breath, thus giving it an edge and durability to last forever. The archmages of that time also enchanted the blade to further protect its wielder from magic and control, making a formidable weapon indeed for the centuries to come. Little did they know that it would play a major role in the coming battle they would all face.

Powers

The power of the sword aren't as its name implies, but work to keep the shadows of the mind clear. Anyone holding the blade is immune to mind control and has their thoughts protected from intrusion. The blade will turn these spells harmlessly aside without any effect. It also keeps the wearer from the effects of despair and sadness, instead helping them to work through their grief on the field of battle, rather than in the quiet madness of their own thoughts. This has led to an image in some stories of an unfeeling warrior, unable to love or care about their fallen comrades, yet the hero in those same stories has always carried through in the end without hesitation.
Shyi rode out of Tir-Onial that evening, tears falling from her violet eyes. She wore her silver chased armor, denoting her family crest of House Nightstar, and carried the sword Mithsran at her side. from Dragon Caller, Rise of the Archmage book 1
