Teamster

Characters who grew up as an apprentice under, assistant to, or practiced the works of charioteers & land riders, will have the chance to have this particular Extra Skill. For it pertains primarily to the knowledge of carts, wagons, chariots, carriage, and driving said and like vehicles, knowing which terrain to take, when to speed up or slow down, what pace is best, and so forth. Thus while the character never has to be the one driving the vehicle, they do need to have been exposed to the process for long periods of time. This time would need to be vastly longer if the character is learning on their own without a mentor.

With the knowledge and experience of a charioteer & land rider under their belt, characters with this skill can expertly appraise vehicles without any rolls, & properly determine the condition of said vehicles. This could result in discovering that the vehicle is flawed in some way, and thus subjected to breaking down in the middle of travel, an average but good quality vehicle, superior vehicles that can take a hit and endure harsher maneuvers, or even whether the vehicle is on the verge of falling apart or is in peak condition. In addition, should one with this skill spot any damage to the vehicle, so long as it isn't irreversable, they can repair the damage with the appropriate tools, materials and time to do so without any rolls (unless rushing the job).

Furthermore the character with this skill are more keen at spotting landmarks and overall navigating roads, thus giving them a bonus of +1 in direction sense when choosing directions and paths when on the road, and do not need to roll at all if they are using a map as a guide. Note that this is only when on or close by roads, not in the wilderness. They also have a greater than average chance to notice signs of more dangerous wildlife, monsters, demi-humans, locations ideal for ambushes and such, giving them a +1 to surprise checks on the road, as well as recognizing the most common signs of animal and demi-human traffic. Finally, if someone with this skill is attempting to fashion together a makeshift cart, they and everyone aiding them in the project will get a +1 modifier to their check.
