Storytelling
Storytelling is the proficiency and skill in sharing a story in a manner that retains people's attention, and succeeds in the player's goal in either entertaining, teaching, warning, or otherwise distracting their target audience.
When someone goes about storytelling, they can make up a story, use a story from historical significance, religious significance, and so forth, but the goal is always the same. To tell a story that retains their audience's attention, and either successfully entertains them, teaches them, warns them, distracts them, or all of the above. When sharing a story of any significance, one may be required to make a check with anything that story might relate to (most often history, monster lore and religion, but it can also involve other such things like apothecary, astrology, etiquette, gambling, heraldry, hunting, navigation, etc.). Successful checks grant a -1 to -3 bonus to your storytelling check, while failed checks enforce a reverse in penalty. Other penalties may also occur if the storyteller is speaking of matters that would be controversial, or things that can be taken as an insult to the audience's race, sex, culture, social class, livelihood, etc.
When one succeeds their check, they will gain an additional +10% reaction adjustment bonus, and they will also have succeeded in either getting some of the audience to accept their teachings/warnings if there were any, or at the very least take it into consideration. It should be noted that combining storytelling, musical instrument and singing together is highly encouraged, especially for bards, as this maximizes the reaction adjustment bonus/result.
- This Proficiency is an "Any Use" Skill, meaning that anyone can use it with a 1-2/10% chance.
- The cost to unlock this skill is one Proficiency Point.
- The Attribute Modifier for this skill is Charisma.
