- The Attribute Modifier for this skill is Intelligence.
This proficiency is used to properly recognize and translate runes (symbols and images used in place of words to communicate more information in a smaller space). As such one can automatically identify and translate any rune of the kind they have learned. Regarding magical runes designed to conceal their true nature (such as that of exploding runes) one must roll a proficiency check to safely recognize symbols before they can activate. For those who have not unlocked this proficiency, they must roll to recognize, identify and translate runes, and they have no special means of recognizing empowered runes unless it is obvious. When a player puts points into this proficiency they must select what types of runes they are learning from the following list:
- Ancient Runes
- Common Runes
- Dracon Runes
- Druidic Runes*
- Dwarven Runes
- Elemental Runes**
- Elven Runes
- Holy Runes*
- Infernal Runes**
- Shadow Runes*
- Titan Runes**
- Undead Runes**
*Only the appropriate class (druids for druidic, cleric for holy and thieves/assassins for shadow) can learn these runes properly. Any other class must put 3 points into them instead of 1.
