Rope Use

  • This Proficiency is an "Any Use" Skill, meaning that anyone can use it with a 1-2/10% chance.
  • The cost to unlock this skill is one Proficiency Point.
  • The Attribute Modifier for this skill is Dexterity.
A character who has unlocked this proficiency has extraordinary knowledge in the use of rope, while those who haven't unlocked it have heard or learned some of it offhandedly, pertaining especially to the tying and releasing of knots. If the construction of a temporary shelter involves the use of rope (which is almost always the case), a character with proficiency in rope use can erect or take down the shelter in half the length of time that a normal character would require. Such a shelter erected by a character with this proficiency is half as likely to be adversely affected by inclement weather (high winds, heavy rain or snow) as a shelter erected by a normal character.
If a character who has unlocked this proficiency has his or her hands bound and tied with a rope or cord, he or she can escape the bonds by making a successful proficiency check. This is made with a +3 penalty to the die roll if the character's hands are tied in front of their body, or with a +6 penalty if the characters are tied behind the back. Characters who have not unlocked this proficiency cannot attempt this particular feat.
A character with this proficiency unlocked also gain a +2 "to hit" on all attacks made with a lasso. He or she also receives a 10% bonus on all climbing checks made while he or she is using a rope, including attempts to belay companions.
