Miner
- This Proficiency is an "Any Use" Skill, meaning that anyone can use it with a 1-2/10% chance.
- The cost to unlock this skill is Two Proficiency Points.
- The Attribute Modifier for this skill is Wisdom.
When trying to find a location to mine for precious metals and gemstones it's important to note that certain locations will never yield anything of value. These include regions of deep sand or dirt, or areas of hardened lava. Should the character spot an area that may bear fruit, after thoroughly searching the area, they can make a proficiency check. Such a search requires at least a week of time under good conditions (not fending off bandits/monsters and not hunting for food during search) and covers around four miles square. Adverse conditions include layers of snow covering the area, steady rainstorms, and rough terrain.
If the proficiency skill check fails, the miners find nothing. Further search attempts may be made, however the task will be more difficult (-1 modifier to the proficiency check, & search time is doubled. A third attempt is a -2 modifier, & search time is tripled). If the proficiency check succeeds however, the miner has discovered something of value within the area searched. What is found is determined by the DM via table.
