Locksmith

Locksmith is the profession and skill used to repair and forge locks used in homes, keeps and the like. The more simple the lock design, the more easy it is to craft it, but also the more easy to lockpick it. The reverse can be said of more complex the lock design.

  • Locksmith is a "Trained Use" skill, meaning that it cannot be used until it is unlocked.
  • The cost to unlock this skill is two Proficiency Points.
  • The Attribute Modifier for this skill is Dexterity.

Those who have points in the locksmithing proficiency will be better proficient at lockpicking than the average person. As such they'll have a +20% to pick simple locks, and +10% to pick moderate locks. If their class already has higher chances of picking locks, then it is a straight +15% across the board.

In addition to knowing how to repair locks, locksmiths also know how to break a lock should it be necessary. Thus they, or via communicating where and how to strike the lock someone with more strength, can add a +2 to their roll to break locks.

In order to craft a lock, locksmiths must either also possess the blacksmith proficiency or work alongside a blacksmith. The parts must be forged with a successful blacksmith proficiency check with a -5 bonus to their roll if they have points in the locksmith proficiency. Once they have the parts the locksmith can attempt to craft a lock. Simple locks have no penalties. Moderate locks have a +2 penalty to the check. Hard locks have a +4 penalty. Difficult locks have a +6 penalty. Complex locks have a +10 penalty, and Master locks have a +12 penalty.
