Jewelry/Lapidary

Jewelry & Lapidary is the proficiency and skill to cut and clean gemstones, forge, string, weave and wrought jewelry, and otherwise creating precious trinkets of varying sorts.

  • This proficiency is a "Trained Use" skill, meaning that it cannot be used until it is unlocked.
  • The cost to unlock this skill is Two Proficiency Points.
  • The Attribute Modifier for this skill is Dexterity.

With this proficiency one can attempt to cut/carve, shape, finish and polish rough gemstones that are discovered through mining. Before the character begins the gemstone is often at half it's minimum worth due to imperfections and covered in rubble. Should the player succeed their proficiency check, the gemstone will be raised to it's minimum worth. After this the player can attempt a secondary proficiency check to increase it's worth further. With each successful check it's worth is increased by 1d100 percentage increase. For every additional check per gemstone the player will receive a cumulative +2 penalty to succeed. The worth of gemstones can never exceed 500%.

Characters can also create jewelry of any sort so long as they have the materials. This includes crowns, earrings, necklaces, bracelets, chains, rings, jeweled belts, and so forth. It requires a proficiency check to craft the jewelry, and the more complex the jewelry and/or fragile the material, the greater the penalty to their check they'll receive.
