Hunter

Characters who grew up as an apprentice under, assistant to, or who practiced the work of a huntsman and trackers, will have the chance to have this particular Extra Skill. For it pertains primarily to the knowledge of tracking & hunting game, including identifying wounded & isolated game, predators in the area, spotting animal trails & dens, remaining quiet and hidden, etc. Thus while the character never has to be the one actually hunting, they do need to have been exposed to the process for long periods of time. This time would need to be vastly longer if the character is learning on their own without a mentor.

With the knowledge and experience of a Huntsman under their belt, characters with this skill can expertly spot animal tracks, trails, dens, and markers left behind by them. They can identify how many is with the group in the tracks, how far or close they are, if any of them are wounded or lagging behind, and so forth, all without rolling. They can also easily skin any animal they kill with the right tools and time, and even harvest claws, teeth, horns and the like, all without making rolls. Please note however that this is only in regards to average animals, never monstrosities, mythical creatures, and so forth, though in regards to those creatures the character will get a +1 to their rolls.

Furthermore the character can with this skill identify fairly quickly whether there are any predators of said game that may be in the area, and even make an educated guess as to where the animals are likely headed. This chance is 10% in unknown areas, 25% chance with a map, and 80% chance if they are familiar with the location. Their prey has a -1 to their surprise roll when hunting game, and they always get a +1 modifier on their hunter proficiency when in the middle of hunting. +2 if they are hunting alone, or hunting with others possessing the Hunter Skill.
