Gunsmith

Gunsmith is a very rare, and very difficult profession and skill focused on the maintenance, repair, and creation of guns. With this profession being extremely new, and the technology not at all ideal yet, it takes a great deal of time to learn, a great deal of time to craft, and a great deal of supplies and materials to do their craft.

  • Gunsmith is a "Trained Use" skill, meaning that it cannot be used until it is unlocked.
  • The cost to unlock this skill is three Proficiency Points.
  • The Attribute Modifier for this skill is Dexterity.

Most who would attain this proficiency will mostly benefit from the ability to repair firearms given that they have a chance to backfire and/or jam. Weapons that the character has proficiency points in can repair the firearm so long as they have the supplies, tools and time. Any other firearm and they'll need to succeed a proficiency check in.

In order to craft a firearm however, one needs to either possess the blacksmith proficiency, or work with someone else who has the blacksmith proficiency to forge the metallic parts, and/or the same for carpentry regarding the wooden parts of the gun (it's possible to do all metal, however it's never recommended to have a handle with high conductivity, especially for rifles as the recoil can harm the user's shoulder). Once they have all the proficiencies/assistants needed, they can then finally attempt to craft the gun. They must succeed the blacksmith and carpentry proficiency checks to first successfully make the parts, and then they must roll the gunsmith proficiency check. Only after they succeed with all three will they have successfully created a firearm.

Please note the following: Gunsmiths who wish to design a superior gun (i.e. +1 or so) can only do so by rolling a natural 1, and even then they must roll on the table below to determine what level of quality it is. Furthermore anyone seeking to invent a new firearm will need to roll with a +10 penalty to the roll.
