Forester
Characters who grew up as an apprentice under, assistant to, or who practiced the works of a forester, will have the chance to have this particular Extra Skill. For it pertains primarily to the knowledge of trees and forests & how to identify the hardness of a tree, the qualities of a tree, which trees are old enough for chopping, and of course where to chop the tree, as well as the process of planting, growing and caring for trees. Thus while the character never has to be the one cutting down trees, they do need to have been exposed to the process for long periods of time. This time would need to be vastly longer if the character is learning on their own without a mentor.
With the knowledge and experience of a Forester under their belt, characters with this skill can expertly identify and analyze trees without any rolls, & properly determine whether a tree is alive or dead/dying, if it's healthy or sick/infested, if it contains more water than sap, if it's hard or soft wood, whether a branch will hold, and even may make an attempt to determine if a tree is just a tree, or if it is animated, sentient, a treant, etc. (with varying degree of difficulty/success), and can also spot markings made by mammals, demi-humans or humanoids in the trees (though what they mean requires an animal lore or monster lore check). In addition, should one with this skill spot any sickness, damage, infestation, etc. on any tree, or even treant, so long as it isn't irreversable, they can help restore it with the appropriate tools, materials and time to do so without any rolls.
Furthermore, the character with this skill will never become lost in forests they are familiar with, including forests similar to their own (aka similar trees & terrain, climate, etc.), and have a +1 when rolling the Direction Sense Proficiency in unfamiliar forests (+2 with a map). In addition to this, those with this particular skill will have a +4 "To Hit" against trees when not engaged in combat, or +1 "To Hit" if engaged in combat, and deal +1 damage per die of damage to trees. These bonuses apply to animated & sentient trees and even Treants as well, only it is +2 "To Hit" if not engaged in combat, and only +1 damage overall rather than per die of damage.
