Engineering
- This proficiency is a "Trained Use" skill, meaning that it cannot be used until it is unlocked.
- The cost to unlock this skill is Two Proficiency Points.
- The Attribute Modifier for this skill is Intelligence.
There are two forms of engineering one can obtain from this skill, and only one costs two proficiency points. The first is that of civil engineering, which goes hand in hand with architecture a good deal of the time. Civil architecture includes the creation of roads, bridges, wind/water mills, aqueducts & waterworks, sewers, and anything that might require the mind of an engineer. Engineers also provide a -1 bonus to architect and siegecraft proficiency rolls due to their versatility. Due to this high level of knowledge, engineers will often be able to provide a +1 to hit most structures and mechanisms due to their knowledge of their weak points and vulnerabilities.
The second is far more rare and the most costly in terms of proficiency points as it has to do with the next level of technology, Gnomecraft, or otherwise called steamcraft. Relatively new and complex technology, it costs five points to unlock and three points to progress. However those with this proficiency can recognize most common steamwork, and even tweak or repair most of this technology. To repair moderate and above however requires a proficiency check, and it always requires a proficiency check to craft technology, with moderate, difficult and complex inventions applying a +4, +8, and +12 penalty respectively.
Those with gnomecraft unlocked will automatically apply a -1 bonus to any gunsmith proficiency check.
