Carpenter

Characters who grew up as an apprentice under, assistant to, or who practiced the works of a carpenter and engineer, will have the chance to have this particular Extra Skill. For it pertains primarily to the knowledge of wooden constructions & how the wood is prepared, cut, placed, nailed, etc. Thus while the character never has to be the one building and constructing the wooden structures, buildings & wooden machines, they do need to have been exposed to the process for long periods of time. This time would need to be vastly longer if the character is learning on their own without a mentor.

With the knowledge and experience of a Carpenter under their belt, characters with this skill can expertly appraise any building or wooden machines (like catapults, trebuchet, bastillae, cranes, etc.), & properly determine the condition, quality & durability of the structure. This could result in discovering that the structure is flawed in some way, and thus more susceptible to damage than other structures, an average but good quality structure, superior and more durable than most, or even whether the structure is unknowingly on the verge of breaking or is in peak condition. In addition, should one with this skill spot any damage to the structure, whether by natural means or impact, so long as it isn't irreversable, they can repair the damage with the appropriate tools, materials, and time to do so without any rolls (unless rushing the job).

Furthermore, the character with this skill can attempt to spot weak points in such buildings, structures and machines. To do this, they must roll a Carpenter or Engineering Proficiency Check (no attribute modifiers allowed for this), with a +4/20% penalty to the roll in the middle of combat. Should they succeed their check, they can direct attacks dealt by siege weapons or structure damaging spell caster or monsters to the weak point, resulting in double damage. They also gain an additional +1 to their rolls when searching for secret entrances, passages, portals and the like in/on wooden structures.
