Venator Turrim

The capital city of the Venatorian Empire, and the largest city in all of Eregost, Venator Turrim houses the vast majority of the Venatorian Empire's most important assets, and has been home to all emperors since its creation.

Demographics

The vast majority of the population are humans, though there are also large amounts of elves and dwarves, as well as the occasion halfling. Very few peasants live in the city, as most property is expensive and luxurious. Living in the Capital City is deemed a privilege.

Government

Venator Turrim is the capital of the Venatorian Empire, and so it is under the constant watch of the Venatorian Legion.   The presence of Legionnaires on the streets is a common sight, instilling a sense of security and order among its residents. These disciplined and highly trained soldiers form the vigilant guardians of the city, tasked with maintaining law and order, protecting the citizens, and ensuring the safety of Venator Turrim and its surrounding areas.   In the Venator Turrim, the weight of high taxes is balanced by a impressive array of benefits that the citizens enjoy in return. Despite the burden of taxes, Venator Turrim offers its citizens a multitude of entertainment options. The centerpiece of this entertainment is the renowned arena, where thrilling gladiatorial matches and captivating spectacles unfold. Citizens have the privilege of attending these events free of charge. To cultivate the intellect of its populace, the city provides free access to a vast library housed in the bustling housing district. This treasure trove of knowledge boasts a vast collection of books, manuscripts, and scrolls, covering a wide range of topics from history and philosophy to art and science.

Defences

The formidable city walls of Venator Lancea stand as a testament to the city's unwavering commitment to defense and protection. Constructed with meticulous attention to detail, these walls are not only an architectural marvel but also a formidable deterrent against any hypothetical invading army. Made from sturdy and gleaming white marble, the walls soar high into the sky, their grandeur enhanced by the imposing presence of mounted ballistae and cannons strategically positioned along their length. These formidable siege weapons serve as a visible reminder of the city's readiness to repel any potential threat that may loom on the horizon. As day turns into night, the walls and their mounted defenses are illuminated by flickering torches, casting an ethereal glow that magnifies their awe-inspiring presence. The city's inhabitants can rest easier, knowing that the walls of Venator Lancea are armed and vigilant, standing as an indomitable barrier against any who would be foolish enough to try to invade the city.   The undying Custorts roam the streets of Venator Turrim, while the locals find them unnerving at best, the Custorts only harm those that they see breaking the law. Angering a Custort is considered a death sentence, as they cannot be bribed, reasoned with or permanently killed.

Industry & Trade

Within this district, the rhythmic clang of hammers striking iron resonates through the air as numerous skilled blacksmiths ply their trade. Every single beat of every hammer is used to create equipment for the Venatorian Legions in their campaign against the Clans of the Ceilic Region. These blacksmiths, known for their exceptional talent and dedication, are highly valued members of the community. Recognizing the vital role they play in the war effort, they are generously compensated for their work, ensuring their loyalty and commitment to the production of superior weaponry, armor, and siege machines.

Infrastructure

Venator Turrim has a large sewer system that feeds out to sea, it is one of the few settlements with a citywide sewer system.   The Venatorian Empire takes immense pride in its infrastructure, recognizing that well-kept roads are not only a testament to their advanced civilization but also a reflection of their commitment to the safety and convenience of its citizens and visitors. A dedicated corps of skilled stonemasons forms the backbone of this continuous effort to maintain the roads in perfect condition. Each day, teams of skilled workers can be found meticulously inspecting the roads, identifying any signs of wear and tear, and addressing even the smallest imperfections promptly. In a city where every detail is carefully considered, the constant maintenance of its roads stands as a symbol of the Venatorian commitment to perfection.

Districts

There are nine districts within the city's walls. The Sentinel District. The Arena District. The Temple District. The Neptune District. The Markets District. The Housing District. The Ceres District. The Warfare District. And the Imperial District.   Rising proudly on the outskirts of Venator Turrim, the Sentinel District stands as the vigilant guardian, a bastion of security and fortitude. Its towering walls, fortified with ancient stone and sturdy materials, encircle the city, serving as the first line of defense against any potential threats that dare to encroach upon the borders. The Sentinel District is meticulously designed to uphold the safety and protection of the city's inhabitants. Numerous legionary barracks, their imposing facades an emblem of disciplined strength, are strategically positioned throughout the district. Within these barracks, highly trained and dedicated soldiers, members of the Venatorian Legions, stand ready to answer the call of duty and defend the city with unwavering resolve. It is here that the legions find respite, honing their skills, and preparing for the arduous tasks that lie ahead. Beneath the ground floor of the Sentinel District, a formidable prison is nestled, its somber walls serving as a constant reminder of the consequences that befall those who would disrupt the harmony and order of Venator Turrim. Guarded by a vigilant force, the prison ensures that those who pose a threat to the city's peace are securely contained, their actions unable to sow discord within the city's cherished embrace.   The Arena district is the smallest of all the districts. It holds a Colosseum which holds fights that the public can see, free of charge. Prisoners can request to earn their freedom in the arena. If their application is accepted, they may have to fight beasts or other prisoners. Some people volunteer to become gladiators, paid fighters that engage in more difficult fights for money.   The Temple district has a massive temple and smaller shrines, dedicated to the Olympian Pantheon, though they are referred by their Venatorian names, instead of the classic Authenian names. Many citizens come here to pray and leave offerings to the gods.   The Neptune District is outside of the city walls, it is a large fishing port connected to the Eveniat Lake.   The bustling Markets District beckons with its vibrant energy and a kaleidoscope of sights, sounds, and scents. This bustling hub of commerce and creativity serves as the beating economic heart of the city, where the spirit of entrepreneurship thrives and the exchange of goods and services intertwines seamlessly. Merchants and artisans from far and wide converge in the Markets District, bringing with them their unique talents and exquisite creations. Craftsmen's guilds abound, their workshops bustling with activity as skilled artisans ply their trade, crafting intricate jewelry, fine textiles, ornate woodwork, and a myriad of other coveted goods. Taverns and restaurants dot the district, offering a diverse array of culinary experiences, from hearty local fare to exotic delicacies from distant lands. As day transitions into night, the Markets District takes on a different ambiance. Lanterns illuminate the streets, casting a warm glow upon the bustling crowds. Taverns come alive with laughter and merriment, as weary shoppers find respite in the jovial ambiance of the local watering holes.   The Housing District holds both smaller, affordable living spaces and lavish, expensive mansions. The Housing district is patrolled through by multiple groups of legionnaires at all times, in an attempt to prevent antisocial and seditious behaviour.   The Ceres District emerges as a breathtaking oasis of natural beauty. Designed to enchant and captivate the senses, this district is a harmonious fusion of meticulously curated flora, fauna, and tranquil landscapes, offering respite from the bustling urban environment. At the heart of the Ceres District lies a sprawling park, meticulously manicured to perfection. Lush greenery carpets the earth, punctuated by vibrant bursts of color from a vast array of flowers, creating a tapestry of botanical wonders. Here, visitors are greeted by a symphony of scents, as fragrant blooms perfume the air, transporting them into a realm of serenity and tranquility. The park serves as a living showcase of both common and exotic plant species, carefully curated to provide an awe-inspiring display. From towering trees that reach for the heavens, casting dappled shade upon the winding pathways, to delicate ferns and intricate mosses that carpet the forest floor, every corner of the Ceres District is a testament to the beauty and diversity of the natural world. To enhance the immersive experience, harmless animals from various regions have been thoughtfully introduced into the Ceres District. These creatures, ranging from familiar blackbirds and playful squirrels to more exotic and captivating species like peacocks and pangolins, roam freely amidst the verdant landscapes.   The Warefare District is dedicated to producing equipment for the Venatorian Legions, be it weapons, armour or potions. It is where the Venatorian Armoury is held, the largest collection of weaponry ever amassed, where Venatorian soldiers can go to fill out a requisition form for their equipment.   The Imperial District lies at the heart of Venator Turrim, an enclave of power and authority. Dominating the district's skyline is the magnificent Tower of Iramulleb, an architectural marvel that serves as the residence of Emperor Vigilo Angelius, the esteemed ruler of the Venatorian Empire. Ascending to the uppermost heights of the tower, one would find themselves within the inner sanctum of the Emperor's domain. It is here that the opulent chambers of Emperor Vigilo Angelius are nestled, adorned with regal tapestries, gilded furnishings, and priceless artifacts that reflect the grandeur of the empire. From his private quarters, the Emperor commands a panoramic view of Venator Turrim, a symbol of his omnipotent rule. Within the depths of the Tower of Iramulleb, a war room resides, a chamber of strategic planning and deliberation. It is in this hallowed space that Emperor Vigilo Angelius occasionally convenes with his trusted Legates and Procurators, the esteemed leaders of the Venatorian Legions and the imperial bureaucracy. Here, military campaigns are discussed, intelligence is shared, and decisions of great import are made, shaping the course of the empire. Beneath the tower's foundations lies the labyrinthine expanse of Arcendor Gravis' laboratory, the Arcane Adviser to the Emperor. This secretive and enigmatic figure wields great influence, as his deep knowledge of the arcane arts and ancient wisdom guides the Emperor in matters of magic and the supernatural.

Guilds and Factions

The City of Venator Turrim is under the control of the Venatorian Empire.   The Adamant Sickle Trading Company has invested in several of the businesses found in the market district of Venator Turrim.   The Authenian Republic has an embassy in Venator Turrim, in the Imperial district. Authenian diplomats and scholars often live in this large embassy.   There are followers of all the Olympian Gods in Venator Turrim, though the gods themselves are referred to by their Venatorian names instead of their classical Authenian names. The Church of Jupiter has the largest presence in Venator Turrim out of all the gods.

History

The city of Venator Turrim was built in seven years, from 565 to 572. It was built under the order of the first emperor of the Venatorian Empire, Septimus Angelius. It is said that Septimus himself helped build it, though the extent to this varies depending on which historian you ask, with it being a constant source for debate among scholars.

Architecture

The city's walls, composed of sturdy white marble, encircle the bustling streets and structures within. The choice of marble as the primary material for the walls lends an air of purity and order to the cityscape. Its pristine white surface stands as a symbol of the city's prosperity and the craftsmanship of its builders.   The shops that dot the streets exhibit a harmonious blend of traditional building techniques. The facades are predominantly constructed with a combination of sturdy bricks and natural wood. This architectural fusion creates a visually appealing contrast, where the solidity of bricks meets the warmth and texture of wood.   Every building owned by the Imperial state is at least partially decorated with red paint to signify venatorian ownership.
