Sÿbian/Séwéti people

Sÿbian people call themselves Séwéti which literally means "the people".   Their culture is originated from far away to the South, beyond the Kunta desert, and the Kunta inland Sea. Their homeland in the Nahari Desert was invhaded by the ancestors of the Mokhtar people , thousands of years ago. Those captured got dispersed all around Eréd, mainly within the Mermekh world, some were forced to slavery, used as merchandise by their conquerors. Their homeland the kingdom of Ménégi has been controled by a Mokhtar tribe ever since, and renamed Musmrat Nahara (colony of Nahari).   They've suffered a great deal to the hands of the Mokhtar people, and they still suffer today out of the Empire of Wisterand, as slavery is forbiden there.   They are found all around Ered and in particular on the island of Daséti in the Southern Sea, in the South of the Subcontinent, around the city of Sÿbia, a valey between the mountain ranges of the Southern Pics to the West and the Pillars to the East, South to the city of Nilar and in the region of Subiatérat within the Great Kingdom of Midaria.   The name of the city of Sÿbia comes from "Séwéti Buta" which means "the poeple's place" or "the place of the people", they contracted it to "Subu" and the Nilarian people transformed it to "Sebie", which the Sierians translated to Sÿbie.   In -215 Mokhtar people from Nilar, took the city of Sÿbia over. It was a time of decline for the the Antic Empire of Sier and their control over the Mokhtar Kingdom was fading and the two organisations had started to battle against each other. Progressively the power of The Antic Sier diminished until Nilar had taken over all the major ports and cities of the empire. then the destruction took place, Siér was gone, and Midaria was foundeed. For more than three hundred years Midarian power rose unstoppable, until Nilar fell and the Empire of Wisterand was proclaimed. After this the newly crowned Urior Sundhaérior gave to Sÿbian people the region West of The Uré, in repare of those five hundered years under Mokhtar rules. There they founded the city of Subia and the region was called Subiaterat (Subian Territory).   Fortunatley Nilar never sought to invade Daséti and the Mokhtars of the Almhod Empire never managed to take the island over. So this Kingdom stayed a safe place for all Séwéti people.

Art & Architecture

Ancestral Séwéti urban and religious architecture, in other words, palaces, villas, town houses and temples, were built with alternating layers of stone and wood. Wooden beams, reinforcing elements of the buildings, were placed horizontally to support the walls and the openings, whether doors or windows. One of the most notable characteristics of the Séwéti technique is that of allowing the beams to protrude slightly from the walls. This unique technique has come to be known as ‘monkey’s head’ because of the resemblance of these wooden projections to heads protruding from the walls. Most structures have large, carefully cut blocks of granite or limestone at all corners, which protect, join and support the weaker parts of the walls. Granite and stone were also used for architectural elements such as columns, bases and capitals, doors, windows, floors and stairs.

Ideals

Beauty Ideals

In general Séwéti people have very thin and delicate features, a brown skin and a curly black hair. Their ideal of beauty tends to go towards the thinest and most delicate of features, the skin has a deep and glowing tone, the body is athletic but thin wether for men or women, with broad shoulders and toned arms.   Men are usually shorter than women, and they're less toned as well.

Gender Ideals

In Sÿbian culture gender is clearly defined but has nothing in common with that of other cultures.     Sÿbian women are expected to take any part in the sociaty, they get the hardest tasks. They can be warriors (Sÿbian warriors are even considered elite warriors), blacksmith, village chief, they can travel. Whislt men are expected to be hard workers and capable people, they get the time consuming tasks, food making, education, cattle keeping, textile weaving, they usually never leave their village or city without their wife's agreement...   That is for free Séwéti people from Déséti , Sÿbie, or Subia. For Séwéti slaves or those who grew up in a far away country their ideals may differ greatly to be closer to those of their adopted cultrure's.

Major organizations

Nowadays the only Kingdom under Séwéti's rules is the Kingdom of Daséti on the Island of the same name right in front of the city of Sÿbie in the Southern Sea.    Daséti is a narrow island with montains in the middle, the kingdom controls some smaller ilsands around. The dry climat, arid even, allows cultures higher up in the mountains. Those mountains are also a very good protection against invaders and are the main reason why the island has never been taken over by another neighbouring nation.
