Malakim

Long have the Malakim lived in the Desert of Myrrh, trading with sailors from the north, or Dwarves in the mountains to the west. These are a hardy and resilient people, capable of withstanding any tragedy that should befall them. How could they not when plague dies trying to leave into the deserts, entire armies die of thirst, unprepared for an environment so foreign to them, and cities and settlements disappear under the blowing sands. The Malakim people learned long ago to only keep what they can carry and that their lives and possessions can change as quickly as the ridge line among the dunes.
As long as Men have lived on Erebus, they have sought refuge in the scorching Desert of Myrrh. A place where any man can find redemption, a fresh start in a place unlike any other. Because of this long tradition of refuge from the outside, the Malakim are a warm and welcoming people, knowing full well how long the desert seems even on camelback. They are, however, blunt and honest when it comes to most matters, as embellishment is a mirage, a lie among an obvious truth.
The Malakim are less of a unified people and more of a loose coalition of several city states. Because of the large desert in between most cities, centralizing any power is nigh impossible so most cities are kingdoms in of themselves that swear fealty to whichever city currently is most powerful. Most cities are ruled by a council of elders who determine taxes, defenses, and foreign policy, while some others are ruled by single tyrants whose only concern is fulfilling their desires.
The backbone of the Malakim people is their unshakable faith in Lugus. Although the organized faith of Lugus was eliminated in the Age of Magic, the people still found faith in him, one way or another. The Empyrean, created by the elven prophet, Varn Gosam, is the reborn faith of Lugus and has spread its influence wherever the desert sun shines.
