Yvran: Realm of the Warlocks

Yvran (YEE-vran) is a harsh, frigid land assailed on three sides by the Sea of Wyrms and it is the largest and most sparsely populated of the Nine. It's people - known pejoratively as the "Witch Elves" - are similarly harsh and frigid. Looked at with fear by their brethren, Yvrani tend to worship strange deities outside of the mainstream. Like Tor Elian, Yvran is a center of academic learning, but unlike Tor Elian, Yvrani scholars dabble in the eldritch and macabre.

In the long history of Lumeris, there have been several civil wars and uprisings. Most of these involved Yvran, and Yvran always was on the losing side. This, along with the foul weather, created a sense of bitterness and resentment among the Yvrani. In the convoluted world of Eldar politics, Yvran has many enemies and few friends, Bel Shamar and Nashirna being their occasional allies. In warmer times, Yvran was much more densely populated, but over the millennia many of their people have left for greener pastures. Some of these retreated beneath the mountains, where they are known as Drow. Others crossed the Shimmering Sea, never to return.

Yvran may be only loosely associated with the other Kingdoms, but they are an essential part of Lumeris. Without Yvran, the Eldar would have far fewer warlocks, rogues, assassins, spies, and the like, and court intrigue would be far less interesting...
