Way of Wine

Vinalessai, or the "Way of Wine", is an ancient custom of Lumeris, the natural culmination of thousands of years of wine culture. To lumerophiles, it symbolises everything admirable about that fabled realm, while to Holmgardians  and other upstanding rustics it is a object of ridicule.    Legend has it that the Way of Wine was popularized by the magistress-courtesan Senorya, in the centuries before the Godfall. The Seelie King at that time, Gevendrel, was a famous wine-lover, and to rise in his graces, Senorya perfected a ritual blending telepathic magic with wine-pouring. Over the course of an entire hour, she conducted an elaborate ceremony mixing hypnotic dance with fantastical movements of levitated wine-streams. King Gevendrel was immediately smitten, and from that day on Senorya was made the royal consort. Her disciples became known as winedancers, and the art of winedancing an integral part of the courtly arts.    Today, winedancing is a craft that blends that of a sommelier, performance artist, and dancer. Winedancers are found in the most expensive restaurants and opera houses of the realm, with the most skilled finding themselves employed in royal courts.
