The Overhall

Overview:   The Overhall is the afterlife of the Tyrian religion. It is here that Tyr rules over a domain full of departed spirits who feast and revel eternally. Helping Tyr in his works are the Valkyr and the Einjar. The Valkyr are messengers who ferry the chosen between the Ethereal and the Overhall, and take the form of beautiful warrior-maidens. The Einjar are Tyr's companions, and they guard the Overhall against unwanted intruders.   No one is sure what the Overhall looks like exactly, for admission is a one way trip. Some madmen claim to have visited there and returned from death and have described it varyingly as a "pillar", a "golden hall", a "mountain", and even a gigantic tree.   The terms of admission to the Overhall have changed greatly as the Tyrian Church has evolved. In the early days, the skalds proclaimed that death in battle was grounds of automatic admission. If that was not a possibility, honourable behaviour sufficed. As the Church became more organized, the requirements for admission have become more stringent, and now include absolute obedience to the Emperor...
Tyr's Plane:

Unbeknownst to mortals, the Overhall is a plane created by Tyr from the devotion of his followers. It appears to be an ever-changing series of mist-shrouded alpine valleys interspersed by rivers and rocky pinnacles surrounded by clouds. On these pinnacles are great halls of golden thatch where the people of the Overhall revel in immortality. Above this picturesque scene, the skies of the Overhall are in an eternal evening, with the horizons glowing a warm gold and the roof of the sky black and pierced by stars. There is no sun, however - the plane is illuminated by a steady golden light that seems to emanate from everywhere at once. Great swathes of red and shifting green run through the sky, a constant aurora.

At the "entrance" of the Overhall, Holm Graelingard , the first Emperor , holds camp. Before the shimmering Cave of Reflections, he judges newcomers and either sends them ahead to feast or throws them back into the Ethereal.
