On The Soulstones
This tome is inscribed with silver and decorative soulstone. The introduction is penned by none other than Bishop Dagobert:
FOR THE EYES OF THE HIGH INQUISITORS ONLY!
There are many names for the material known by as soulstone. The elves call it "adra", while it is worldstone to the dwarves.
The elves have long known soulstone as a font of magical power, and even built settlements around aggregates of soulstone veins. These veins were known to the elves as "ley lines": areas of high magical potential. A notable example is the city of Cariovarin, constructed around the largest concentration of soulstone in the Known World. It is well known by wizards that soulstone has the ability to power spellcraft.
The rustic mountainfolk of the Irontooth range claim that soulstone - true to its name - carries within it the spirits of the fallen. These suspicions are correct. This fact has been carefully managed by the Inquisition, as it has obvious implications for the ethics of magic use.
Yet the power of soulstone is not limited to the conjuring of cheap tricks. Recently obtained documents from the High Elves suggest that siphoning huge numbers of souls could grant power comparable to the gods.
Due to the great power contained within the stone, it is vital that the Inquisition hoards as much of it as possible to protect the people of the Empire against nefarious magic users.
