Hummingstirge

A hummingstirge is a beautiful creature with a dreadful habit. Raised as fancy birds and war beasts in the Calabim lands, they share the vampiric tastes of their masters.
Hummingstirge resemble over-sized hummingbirds, about the size of an owl, with a long, needle-like beak and a transparent pouch on their bellies. Rather than nectar, though, hummingstirge drink from pools of bloods, carcasses, and living creatures. Using innate hypnotic magic generated by a third eye, they lull their targets to sleep before draining up to gallon of blood. They can be trained to regurgitate this blood into urns or even chilled goblets, making them valuable pets. A target does not need to be asleep, of course, and death by hummingstirge is a common punishment for petty crimes committed by humans in the Calabim lands, with death by various forms of torture reserved for more serious offences.
