Human

Overview:

Humans are the most widespread and varied people in the Known World. Short-lived and ambitious, they have spawned countless civilisations. They are not nearly as learned as the Elves, nor as skilled in craft as the Dwarves, nor as strong as the Greenskins. Instead, their success is due to their diversity, adaptability, ambition, and of course, fertility.

Human Diversity:

Humans vary greatly from region to region, having different of languages, customs, and physical appearance. Human physical appearances also vary across region, though to a lesser extent - most human cultures have a wide ranging spectrum of physical features. What follows are broad generalizations about different groups of humans, though within each group there are of course vast differences.   Holmgardian:   Holmgardians are among the most populous ethnic group in the east, being widespread in the Empire and Rhudaria and Arthendain, to a lesser extent. In appearance, Holmgardians tend towards fair complexions, heralding originally from the the Obsidian Hills and other northern climes. Holmgardians tend towards faith, community, and physical prowess, with the god Tyr holding sway over the majority. They share a language, Holmgardian, which bears heavy dwarven influence and uses the Runic script. This language has several subtypes, including Old Holmgardian, still spoken in the north, Rhudarian (West Holmgardian), with heavy Balok influence, and Dainian, a marginal language spoken in Arthendain.   Balok:   The Balok peoples include Barovians, Tuloshi, the Tser, and the Vistani. Dwelling in the mountains of their namesake, Baloks have a wide variety of appearance from olive to fair skin tones, but speak all speak a similar language. Most worship either the Morninglord or hold folk beliefs. The Balok people have borne great hardship in recent centuries, weathering vampiric incursions, eldritch horrors, and foreign conquest, yet they remain a proud people, facing these threats with grim determination. Stereotypically, they offset their often dark sense of humour with brightly coloured clothing, vibrant song and dance, and spicy cuisine.   Emrayn:   The peoples of the far west, beyond the Balok mountains, include the Emrathi, Lornish, and Cerunnic peoples, which are quite different from each other. Emrayn religion tends to center around druidic lore and Oroborism, and they also have a closer relationship to the the Fey than most. Physically, they tend towards auburn hair and fair skin. Out of all humanity, they have the unfortunate distinction of being the most devastated by the Calabim, and there are very few left outside of a few clusters of Forest Folk in Barovia and the Lornish.   Paxtrian:   Paxtrians, are a diverse group inhabiting the warm coastline and riverbanks of Paxtria, a sprawling Republic situated along the Sea of Blades. Physically, they tend towards olive - black skin tones and curly hair. They tend towards a gnostic faith in both Kelemvor and Lathandar, coinciding with the cycle of the sun and moon. Culturally, they tend to be more skilled in scholarship and the arcane arts than most humans of the north.    Gedere: TBA Tseng: TBA
