Bel Shamar: Realm of the Sea

The Kingdom of Bel Shamar sprawls across the rocky coast and desolate archipelago off Mereiad. Looked down on by other high elves as rough and simple-minded seafolk, the Shamarians are the best ship builders, sailors, and fishermen in the Nine Kingdoms. From the shipyards of Tor Varon, galleons ply the Shimmering Sea and slay would-be pirates with fireball, ballista, and crossbow. The forests of Bel Shamar are notably stunted relative to the rest of Lumeris, and much of the rolling landscape is exposed to the elements: a result of millennia of shipbuilding. Among these hills live an unusual clan of Halfling : the Tanglehands. The Tanglehands are excellent woodworkers who are known for their fine carvings and furniture. Among the high elves, these "little ones" are treated affectionately, as a kindly adult would treat a child.

Long ago, Shamarian sailors ventured across the Shimmering Sea in search of new lands. On the distant and unexplored continent of Tolman, they established colonies that are now independent. Few sailors venture there these days, and the goings-on of the colonies remain mostly unknown.
