The Sowers

Ancient chivalric order with roots (pun intended) in the very beginning of the Old Empire.   According to legend, when the New Gods came to Ettrea, the goddess Fel taught the secrets of crop-growing to a select group of Elves. These elves became the first farmers.   While Fel's farmers freely passed on their new farming knowlege, supposedly Fel (and possibly the other New Gods) taught them other, secret, lore.   So that this secret knowledge (whatever it was) could be passed on, these first farmers created among themselves a sacred order. They called themselves 'The Sowers'. Membership of the order was limited to precisely 120 individuals, all High Elves.   The order has survived to the present day - still with a limit of 120 individuals, all high elves. When the concept of knighthood was introduced to the Old Empire (and the titles of 'Sir' and 'Dame'), members of the Sowers were among the first elves to be knighted.   Many Sowers do now make their membership of the order public. It is rumoured that quite a few notable high elf nobles are Sowers.
