Otto I

King of Zenden and then Celestial Emperor in the late fifth century.   Otto, the Duke of Flynders, overcame his rivals and became King of Zenden at the end of the Zendenian Succession Crisis. Key to his success was his ability to unite previously hostile factions, and also gain the support of The Church.   The favour of the Church was important when the Emperor died, and Otto was nominated to replace him in Grand Conclave. In fact, the Church actively campaigned for Otto's election. Otto was elected as Emperor Otto I. He repaid the Church by funding the building of many great cathedrals across the Empire.   Otto was succeeded as both Emperor and King of Zenden by his eldest son, Otto II.
