Nine Hells

The realm of the Devils. If anyone from The Empire has ever visited the Nine Hells, they have not returned. Most scholars and theologians have long believed that the Nine Hells exist as another plane of existence, or more likely nine planes of existence. A heterodox view is that the Nine Hells exist deep below the surface of Erdde .
There are nine Hells. Modern knowledge of these is based on the writings of the Old Empire high elf archmage Fazmegisleh , who discovered the rites and rituals to summon and bind devils to his service. Fazmegisleh wrote that the Nine Hells are as follows, with the nearest / uppermost listed first:

• Avernus. Ruled by Tiamat, Queen of Dragons.
• Dis. Ruled by Dispater.
• Minauros. Ruled by Mammon .
• Phlegethos. Ruled by Fierna and Belial.
• Stygia. Ruled by Geryon.
• Malbolge. Ruled by Moloch.
• Maladomini. Ruled by Baalzebul.
• Cania. Ruled by Mephistopheles.
• Nessus. Ruled by Asmodeus .

The human occultist Gregori of Nussa, writing in the last decades of the Old Empire gave a different listing of the rulers of the Nine Hells. Gregori was a warlock who supposedly gained power through a pact with an archdevil. The discrepancies between the two lists may reveal errors or misunderstandings from Fazmegisleh or Gregori or may show actual changes over time. Gregori's list is as follows:

• Dis. Ruled by Dispater.
• Minauros. Ruled by Mammon.
• Phlegethos. Ruled by Fierna and Belial.
• Stygia. Ruled by Levistus.
• Malbolge. Ruled by Malagard, the Hag Queen.
• Maladomini. Ruled by Baalzebul.
• Cania. Ruled by Mephistopheles.
• Nessus. Ruled by Asmodeus
