Pallo Avanar
Pallo Avanar
Raised in a lighthouse, where my parents kept the fires burning, on finger island. A small uncharted Island NW of Celodra in between the two western most islands charted islands. For many years the only other human I ever spoke to was Eric, who would Sail out in his small craft with supplies for the next few weeks. I grew up scavenging the rocks for treasures that washed up. I would spend hours on the edge of the water watching all the sea creatures and their behaviors.
I learned how to preform all the duties of running the light house and over time Eric taught me to sail his small craft. As I got older and more inquisitive I would ask my parents why we never went to the mainland? they would exchange glances and say that their duty was here on the island and besides Eric brings us every thing we need. About this time it also occurred to me that there was no boat here on the island.
One day, just after my thirteenth birthday, Eric brought our supplies but to my surprise he had a woman with him, all dressed in the most amazing blue dress i had ever seen. As Eric docked on our Island the woman, who appeared no older than my mother, disembarked and walked right past me to the lighthouse. I helped Eric unload our supplies and an odd trunk. When I asked about the trunk Eric did not answer but only glanced at the lighthouse. It was about this time I saw my parents emerge from the house each with backpacks and carting a trunk between them that matched the one I had just unloaded from the boat. I did not understand what I was seeing.
As my parents got closer I could see my mother was crying, They put down the trunk and my mother knelt down in-front of me, took my face in her hands and kissed my forehead. My father put his hand upon my shoulder and said it is now up to you to to do your duty. My mother said that Lady Moiraine was here to teach me the things I was going to need for my future.

I believe likewise that the physicality of this world is something to learn deeply from. The most physical experiences we know, eating and hurting, being ill and making love, dying and being born, all root us in our bodies and focus our attention on now. They take us to wordless places where we know beyond language. Even to witness these things can be a great teacher.
I believe in other worlds than this one because, like all of us, I’ve been in them, in dream, reverie, imagination and memory, to name only a few altered states. I believe that our ability to live and love and die and return to many worlds is what keeps us sane, and that the truly insane are those who insist this world is the only one, that imagination is dangerous, metaphor is diabolical, dream is delusion, memory is mistaken, and love? — love, they tell us, is merely a matter of chemical responses.
I believe that humans, like all things, are souls and have bodies, not the other way around — that the whole universe is animate, that all things vibrate and pulse with energy, as science is just beginning to discover, and that we are (or can be) at home everywhere because we are a part of all that is.
I believe these things because human consciousness, like the human body, is marvelously equipped for living in this universe, because of all its amazing capacities that we can see working themselves out for bad and good in headlines and history. In art and music and literature, in the deceptions and clarities, cruelties and compassions we practice on ourselves and each other, we test and try out our power.

In the magical world, Avanar is one of the most famous and well-known names. Your power and goodness precede you. You help out everyone that you can and counsel leaders of many magical kingdoms.

Icy Northland
We made our north through waters I have never seen the likes of in my young life. We put on our newly purchased cold weather gear and we made our way across the frozen ground to an entrance at the base of the mountain. The crew and I entered the caves and found shadow elves guarding a bunch of dwarfish slaves. and found a giant bug to kill
Load Runner
The Captain decided packing all this treasure into town would be a very bad idea. Kai, Mateo, Lena and myself packed all our loot to a small out of the way bay. We decided to sink our treasure in the bay. I took time to rest then hide our camp from anyone who might happen along. It turns out it was a good decision because several of those Dragon soldiers came out onto the beach clearly looking for us. Lucky for us they were unable to detect our camp. I am not sure we could have taken them in a toe to toe fight.
The Gale finally appeared to pick us up and I was glad to be back with the crew. We recovered our spoils and set sail for the next piece of our relics.
I have decided I will only feed the crew basic normal rations. If the Captain sees me as just a cook then I will be just a cook. I cant bring myself to feed the crew slop but I have no problem feeding the normal rations. Eventually someone will notice I am sure. If they don't I wont bother trying to make nice meals anymore. It took eight days for the crew to mention the food to the Captain. She decided to call me to her cabin to question me about the food. I decided to appear in the form of an orangutan because any monkey can cook basic rations. The Captain in her infinite wisdom decided to lay the blame of the lower quality food clearly at my feet. I was a bit mouthy about the situation. Beaumont was looking a little like he might stick me for talking back so I was wary of his reach. The crew decided that I should not be severely punished. I hate to force respect out of my fellow crew mates but that seems to be the way of pirates. I made a nice meal for the crew to begin to make up for the audacity of my to feed them normal food ... lol ... I am glad they like my cooking. It also helps prevent any malnutrition ailments they might contract on lesser food. We always have fresh water and good food, name another crew that can say that of their ship.
We encountered a merchant ship in open water. We decided to run her down. The merchant ships Captain was good enough to surrender her cargo without a shot. That should give us gold to bolster the crews moral while we continue to chase relics rather than normal pirating .
Into the Dragons Lair
After defeating the fire turtle we decided to see if we could find and loot the Dragons lair. We put into port on a nearby island to the Volcano we believe to be the lair of the Dragon we are searching for. This is not really pirates work but if we can pull it off it should placate the crew. After all it boils down to hard coin in the end.
Kia agreed to create a magic vest for me to increase my ability to shape shift. It took several days but it is finally finished and I can not wait to try it out. Well I got to try it out and it turned out that somehow it got cursed in the process. I was stuck in animal form, not good for a ships surgeon. It took a couple of days to get the problem resolved. I have made offering to Faenir and Kia and I redid some of the magic and the curse seems to be gone along with my ability to concentrate during meditation seems to be better now too.
Wow we found two entrances to the treasure horde. We chose the base of the volcano entrance to egress the cavern. There was a number of magical defenses we had to work through but as a team we managed to get in. We only found a few guards which Beaumont, Lena and the Captain mowed down. Then I found a secret door and after a moment of contemplation I decided to open only to find three more guards which cost our crew dearly, and I feel terrible. Then we found the vault.
Kia and I decided to cast a few spells up a hallway we had not had time to explore, which turned out to be a really good decision and gave the Captain and the her helper time to open what we believe to be all of the chests. On our way out I managed to seal a door trapping our remaining pursuers on the other side. It is about time I got something right. Maybe I am growing. Now the trick will be getting back to our ship with the loot.
Inquisitor of Faenir
There is a big gap in my journal ever since my companions and I crashed into Faenir's temple in order to rescue the captain I have not been able to sleep well or concentrate. I am sure it is Faenir punishing me for that transgression. I did go out of my way to desecrate the alter of a lesser fire God but that does not seem to have changes anything.
Our most recent adventure came after escaping the fire gods temple and finding Faenir's inquisitor is alive and well and chasing us on the sea. I must say he is persistent. It does not tend to go well for ships who try to take us on the sea. We sailed for a day or so in order to gain some distance and circled back to come in from behind and eventually ram the ship. While the attackers ship had a larger crew. Kia and myself were able to inflict damage on just about every crewmember before they were able to engage. With the Captain and Beaumont leading the charge the already bruised crew was no match for that of the Gail. The inquisitor was fed to a shark by Beaumont. We hope not to see him again. We have salvaged what we could from the ship, the best of which is four more canons to the Gails armaments' and then scuttled the ship.
I have commissioned Kia to create an item for me to increase my abilities. Which he has done. Now to test the results.
The Compass
2nd Roulonday Mid Summer 1907 AS
After thwarting an attack by some sort of aquatic elf being. We all needed rest and selected places to do so. I woke early checked on our prisoner then left to gathered fresh food for breakfast and began to cook. I made available cocoa, coffee, and some very good tea from my personal gear. As each member of the party made their way to the kitchen, I inquired as to their health prepared to heal any if needed. The Captain appeared from outside with a pup in tow. The pup appears to be some sort of wolf hybrid. He and I will chat later so I can learn more. It seems the Captain had a busy night but claims to have gotten rest. She has not only found a companion but has also discovered the actual boudoir of our deceased Captain and a secret passage beyond.
While searching the secret storage room someone discovered a poorly refinished wall. Everyone unanimously agrees to search for traps after the shellacking we took in the hall upstairs. The Captain discovers several trip wires connected to the barrels stacked about the room. Shit it is a damn powder keg the likes to blow the whole house to bits. wanting no part of that I head upstairs only to realize Beaumont has come too. The Captain manages to disarm the triggers and we move the barrels out of the way. Not at all trusting that that is all further inspection determines there is flint in the wall . Not wanting anything to do with fire with all this possible gunpowder in a confined space I decide to use water to wet the wall and scrap the mud away and remove the rocks. somewhat tedious but better than blowing to bits. In the next compartment there is a chest with magical ruin encircling it. Kia and the Captain go in to to see what can be done about the magic when all of a sudden there is a circle of fire. I glance in and see fire streaking away from the ring right at the opposite side of the wall from the gunpowder. I quickly scooped up a large blob of mud to try to stop the streaking fire but stumble and fall. Beaumont goes fling over me and tries to stomp the fire out only to have it spread to his close and continue on past him. next I see Lena calmly drop a large blob of mud ahead of the fire ceasing its race across the floor. Then I am sure I saw a smirk at both Beaumont and I over her shoulder. But she is so quiet it is hard to say if that is really what I saw.
Inside the chest there is a box that appears to be a jewelry box. the Captain orders it put into the dimensional bag of Mateao's for safe keeping and we remove ourselves from the secret store room. Once upstairs we revive our prisoner to ask him some questions. At this time only the Captain and Mateao seem to be able to communicate with him. I am sure I have a spell that can help with this but I cant remember it just now and they seem to be fine with what they are doing now anyway. The Captain has us move the Prisoner to the ship. I decide to get a wagon and the dwarf to move the powder and the prisoner to the ship. No point being conspicuous about the prisoner. He did tell us the item in the chest/box they have been tracking for some time.
The Captain calls us all into her quarters and shows us the prize. It is a compass it only takes a few minutes for us to discover that it points toward the closest piece of Tanifa. The Captain tells us we set sail in the morning, inland sea here we come following the compass.
Every other day I take time to talk with the prisoner. He does not seem to like me much but I will keep trying. I feed him as he requested and ensure he gets a dip in the ocean so he does not get sick. I also try to befriend to new member of the crew the Captains pup. I give him scraps when he comes by but I make sure he knows not to come into the galley.
We have come located a spot in the water and the compass seems to believe the next piece is beneath the water.
Free Cities
5th Aranda of Early Summer 1907 AS
The Captain has been on board the Imperial ship for some time now. Beaumont and some of the others are on the upper deck trying to come up with a plan to fight two Imperial war ships. If we could somehow talk to Mateo, who has already gone overboard, we might be able to tie sea anchors to the underside of the ships. At the very least we could out run them then, if we survived the first volley. Beaumont seems to mean well but he treats everyone like they are his tools. "Pallo is here to heal me after a battle" What does that mean, am I supposed to just sit and watch the fight holding my spells to cure his recklessness, what about the rest of the group. Maybe he should hire a private cleric, or at least buy some healing potions. Speaking of healing potions I need to buy some myself.
There seems to be a parade going into the Captains quarters, I can hear the footfalls of several people. I think I will go and see what is happening. It seems Anya has brokered some sort of truce. It seems she has agreed to find all the piece of Tanifa puzzle. Which I suppose made it an easy sell sense we were going to do that anyway. Anya seems to hate unsolved puzzes. Apparently the imperial captain put on a good spread making Anya question why she is a Pirate Captain and not an Imperial Captain. I can buy better food and put on better meals like they do on an Imperial ship. I cook one meal for the entire crew, not one for the deck crew and one for the officers.
We sailed to the Free Cities. Beaumont has secured the deed to the villa owned by our dearly departed Captain Allurial and we went to investigate. what we found initially was a run down mansion which Beaumont has been very clear is his now. I am curious if it is just part of his brashness and he thinks it is funny or if he believes it should truly belong to him. Searching the house we finally located Allurials quarters behind a hallway trap of crossbow bolts that nearly killed us. If that is not enough we are set upon by some aquatic beings that resemble elves. I dont know much of what happened because I was grabbed by one of the aquatic elves and knocked unconscious. I found myself back downstairs looking into the face of Anya who has apparently just slapped me. I find this mildly humorous after the encounter with the fish people and the singing necklaces. My humor does not last long because she is yelling at me to help the wounded. Everyone is wounded and bleeding. I start with Kia as he is the only other person I know has the ability to heal. I stabilized everyone as Kia did the healing he could. Anya ordered the killing of all but one of our assailants, much to the chagrin of Beaumont. Well on this we agree having more people to interrogate should give us a higher probability of getting the information we need. She told me to play nice and follow orders and unless there is a very good reason not to do so I will. I have taken the time to strip all four dead assassins of their gear . Anya Sees me finishing my task and she tells me to make sure it all ends up in the inventory, I have yet to hear her say one word to Beaumont about the house.
Imperial Ships
5rd Judicday of Early Summer 1907 AS
Several days of sailing we manage to limp into a mid sized harbor for final repairs. Anya and Beaumont manage to get a fair price for our cargo. The crew is paid and the Gale will be in good shape. I need to make use of the surrounding area to gather components. Upon my return I manage to find a talkative guard captain and we share some of my whiskey and he share news of ant least one of the Imperial warships the Zharingen had been in port two weeks past. they were looking for something. Her Captain had no respect for the ways of the locals and spent allot of time harrying the less savory of the city.
The next day I made a sweet confection with which to ply the street children for information. No one ever seems to see the children. they children also have no like for the captain of the war ship and point me in the direction of the local guild for lost items. I took Roe for backup in case things went I was only allowed to see a middle management guy but was able to buy some useful information. If I was a bit less homely this shit would not be as expensive. I was able to find out that the imperial captain was looking for They are looking for a woman with some elven ancestry, she has knowledge or is in possession of some sort of artifact that the imperials are after, silver hair, and a corsair captain, no name was used. this sounds very much like our former captain that died in the storm just a week past. I need to return to tell the crew what I have found out.
When I return to the ship I find that Beaumont has convinced Mateao and Kia to let him put on the seashell necklace, with the partial essence of a powerful entity. My instant thought is I dont want to fight Beaumont as he is if I dont have to, I certainly do not want to fight him possessed by some unknown spirit know to eat souls. I try to assert myself as the wiser in the room and order him to but it back. Of course they had not actually gotten it out yet. It takes time to safely investigate the properties of an item. It is a very bad idea to just put it on and see what it does. I once saw a Brother in our order turned inside out because in his haste to complete a spell he mispronounced part of the incantation.
The New Captain
4th Judicday Early Summer 1907 AS
Anya was voted the Gales Capetian, Beaumont was appointed First Mate, he is no doubt one of the best swordsman onboard but he has no skill at tact, his answer is to stab it beat it or bully it. The Captain has kept me as cook and ships surgeon, until a more suitable candidate can be found. I don't mind the extra work really so it is fine with me. She has ordered me to play nice with Beaumont, I have agreed to follow her orders.
In celebration of the new captain I cooked a wonderful meal filed with dishes from both the land and the sea. The crew ate with out complaint so at the very least it was not bad. Of course no one besides me said it was good either. I also made a lovely confection utilizing rough ground wheat flour crackers, chocolate, and a whipped sugary gelatin allowed to set up firm. I even gave one to Beaumont...special. The next morning the Captain issued orders to find a new cargo. I went back to the ... uh ... redistributors guild to see if I could purchase some information. I hope that my abilities carry enough weight to get good information and not just get taken advantage of. My efforts were rewarded with in formation of a ship coming in from the west. the information was not cheep so I pray to the sea gods It is accurate. When I returned to the ship Lena was giving a report of a cargo she had heard of in town, set to leave very soon. The Captain has decided that information seems credible enough and more to her liking's than what I brought. I have no idea how to tell one way or the other. I just hope the venture is profitable. We sailed east two days and lay in wait. Meanwhile I continue add special seasoning but so far nothing. The upside prolonged use will kill the pallet. Another day passes and the Captain decides to chase the ship I had mentioned, after all. I hope we are not to late after all we are out here to be profitable, not just for the view. Water looks like water when there is no land to differentiate it. Two more days of sailing as fast as the crew can manage. We arrive at what the Captain feels is the best location to cross the ship considering our late arrival. We did not wait to long before there was sign of sales on the horizon.
Pallo Avanar Druid of Faenir
2nd Ilmarinday of Early Summer 1907
Only being on the Sirens-Gale a short time as the ships cook we are set upon by two ships intent on our capture. The Captain making a bold move to escape drives us straight into a major storm. I like much of the crew found myself on the beach looking at the Gale with two broken masts. I know enough about this life that we can not stay here for long before we are found out.
I am sent out with a small party to find suitable replacement masts. We manage to succeed in our task and return to the beach only to realize one of our crew is missing. We get a few more hands and retrace our steps in an attempt to locate Matao the missing crew member. We pick up his trail leading into a dark cave. Not to far into the cave we are set upon by some sort of bipedal fishmen.
Beaumont manages to just about single-handedly kill the fishmen of course not without taking some nasty wounds himself. I can only imagine how effective our group could be if we stayed a little closer together, but what do I know of warfare I barley know how to converse with groups of people. At one point it looked like both Anya and Lena were intent on drowning themselves but I was able to bring them to their senses. I exhaust myself encouraging the party to heal faster. I must remember to not cast beyond my ability I am not as strong as my tutor, yet.
Matao, once again while no one is watching slides into the depths of the water and disappears. None of us have the energy to safely follow him and return to the beach. We are roused in the morning to find Mateo has returned and says that there are more of those fishmen. He also says that the fishmen are hoping to catch us in a trap and feed us all to some magical necklace which may or may not contains some sort of entity the fishmen worship as a god. Again there is another battle but our crew seems fairly formidable when tested as a group. After killing all the fishmen and their leader we find the necklace and a hidden treasure chamber with some very interesting items to the party.
It appears enough of the damage to the Gale is patched up for us to get on the move before we are found once again.
