Gnomes

History and Traditions:

Short-lived and with an innate lack of magic, the gnomes should be the weakest of the major races. But they have turned their intellect towards combating their innate disadvantages by devising new ways to accomplish things. Many technological advances used today are originally gnomish inventions. There are still a fair few inventions which are not seen outside of the hands of a gnome, such as firearms. And gnomes are known for going to great lengths to recover such objects that end up in, what the gnomes would see as unworthy hands.
There aren't many gnomish kingdoms in the Northern Realms, there is but one small one. They mostly stick to themselves and don't involve themselves too much in the politics of other nations. They have, like many others had skirmishes with the Silician Empire, though there hasn't been a full-scale war between them yet. The Silician Empire would very much like the gnomish technology though.

Appearance and Physiological:

To complement their short lives, the gnomes are also short in stature, averaging at a height of 1,36m and with an average weight of 39kg. Gnomes tend to adapt to their environment, more so than many other races. As a result of this, their skin tone darkens more when compared to other races as they move into more equatorial territories. The same goes for their hair.
Over their life, the average gnomes will eat as much as the average human will eat over its life, despite only living half as long. This leads the gnomes to often have an excess of energy, leading to the common view that gnomes are hyperactive and eccentric. While this is simplified, there is a grain of truth to it.
