The Violet Pox is an infectious disease that spread through the city of Malakaya and the surrounding region in 2375.

Aquisition

Violet Pox is spread via contact with bodily fluids or respiratory droplets of an infected person. It can also be contracted by touching objects contaminated with the virus, such as clothing or bedding. Once infected, a person can transmit the virus to others through similar means. The incubation period for Violet Pox is around 3 to 4 days.

Effects

Violet Pox is a highly virulent and lethal disease. Its symptoms include high fever, intense headaches, body aches, and a distinctive purple rash that spreads across the body. The rash is often accompanied by blistering and peeling of the skin. Other symptoms may include coughing, difficulty breathing, and gastrointestinal distress. In severe cases, the virus can cause hemorrhagic fever and lead to internal bleeding, organ failure, and death.

History

The outbreak of Violet Pox in the port city of Malakaya in Sunbloom of the year 2375 started as a typical River Pox outbreak, with several dozen people in the Bilge becoming ill over the course of a few days. However, the disease soon mutated into something far more virulent and deadly. Within a week, the number of cases had skyrocketed, and many people were dying within days of exhibiting symptoms. The city was quickly quarantined, but the virus had already spread beyond its borders, with infected people fleeing to nearby towns and villages. The outbreak eventually spread throughout the region, with tens of thousands of people succumbing to the disease before it finally burned itself out after several months. Despite extensive research, the cause of the mutation remains unknown, leading many to speculate that it was due to some form of magical contamination.
Malakaya's wards were slow to react, and to be treated by clerics, the sick had to cross the city to reach the Cathedral Ward, thus spreading the plague further. High priestess Lyra Sunflower of Herimetha and her acolyte Sister Songbird went to the Bilge to set up an auxiliary shrine and treat the sick directly, eventually constructing a small chapel near Summermist Square in order to serve the people, the Chapel of the Lily.
