Riverpox

Riverpox is a highly contagious virus that primarily spreads through contact with contaminated water, particularly along river trade routes. The virus causes a range of symptoms, including a painful rash, fever, and fatigue.

Acquisition

Riverpox is spread via contact with bodily fluids or respiratory droplets of an infected person. It can also be contracted by touching objects contaminated with the virus, such as clothing or bedding, or by drinking contaminated water. Once infected, a person can transmit the virus to others through similar means. The incubation period for Riverpox is around 3 to 4 days.

Effects

The rash typically begins on the face and then spreads to other parts of the body, including the torso, arms, and legs. The rash is characterized by small, red, itchy bumps that may blister and then scab over. In some cases, the rash can be quite severe and cover most of the body.   In addition to the rash, individuals infected with Riverpox may also experience fever, headache, fatigue, and muscle aches. These symptoms can last for several weeks before gradually subsiding.   Fortunately, the mortality rate for Riverpox is relatively low, with only around 0.05% of cases resulting in death. However, the virus can be quite debilitating and can cause long-lasting effects, such as scarring from the rash and lingering fatigue.

History

A mild outbreak of Riverpox in the city of Malakaya turned into a full-blown epidemic in 3378 when exposure to magical energies caused the disease to mutate into the lethal Violet Pox, leading to a death toll of over 25,000 people.
