Description: Eoforwine Coombse was known to be a mercenary of extreme repute both good and bad. A rogue that one legend says defeated a platoon of mounted warriors by himself while on foot. Most scholars suggest that Coombse simply gathered together earlier treatises and published them under his name. Notable is that numerous of the images are copies of those found in the ‘Manual of Arms’ by Melba Alveye. Regardless, the notes and explanatory text are exceptional. Large format 2 ft by 3ft containing annotated images and explanations on the opposite page with various notes added by others. Sometimes split into separate volumes the original is a single book of 550 pages with numerous chapters. Chapter Four explains attack against an armoured opponent. Chapter Five is a treatise on Longsword defense without a shield. Chapter Six illustrates shield and longsword in single combat. Chapter severn is a treatise on defending against multiple attackers. Chapter eight illustrates mounted longsword combat. Chapter eight is a treatise on the use of daggers. Chapter Nine is a treatise on basic unarmed wrestling.
