Barsim

The town is overwhelmed by the hillfort. It is a commanding sight with the Eorl’s Keep visible from almost anywhere in the town until you approach the ramparts. The ramparts are impressive and you have never seen anything like this before. Row upon row of ditches and stone faced walls. There are two winding roads leading into the top of the hill and each is very steep. Once in the hillfort it is dominated by the keep and its two three story mead halls. In front of these is a large paddock with close to a hundred destriers running free. The other buildings are a mix of barn houses and thatched roof circular buildings you remember from many hamlets and villages throughout the region. The lower town, adjacent to the crossroad is more congested and very much a ‘modern’ town with its taverns and shops and artisans. Artisans are located throughout the lower town, in the back streets and alleys.   Seat of Eorl Llion Barsim and located on the March Way the main road within the Eorldom between Militas and Garabas. a walled hillfort town, with a stone castle and stone ramparts, walkways along all walls and ditches around perimeter of the hill   Population: 1,500 normal / 2,000+ market days / 2,200+ Harvest festival Liege Lord: Eorl Llion Barsim Resources: March Way trade route, horses, maslin (rye and wheat grown together), oats and barley.   127 families, 106 freemen and 21 peasants.   The town has 60 guards (Lokeiss) and can be called upon to provide 42 Spearmen, 16 Archers and 7 cavalrymen.   The B’ran's household consists of 68 servants and the warband/ Pleivink (200) consists of 110 Ijeiss (Axemen foot soldiers), 50 Areiss (Bowman) and 40 Elstash (Mounted Fighters).

Within the domain of the town there are: 10 blacksmiths, 10 woodcrafters, 4 weaponsmiths, 4 armourers, 8 foresters, 6 masons, 12 inns and 7 taverns as well as other guilds and artisans. The Urto temple is presided over by Bishop Còmhan Barsim Church of Urto , and there are several magic users in the College of Light with Principal Torri Calon, College of Light taking a very light hand at managing the place.   Armourers The best is hired exclusively by the High Chief and booked months in advance. The others are in the town past the square on the road leading up to the hill fort.   Gormal Sloani Is a fair and honest man. He provides good products at a fair price. He can be gruff but only to those that don’t know what they want (impatient in the bargaining part of selling). All items are available, some will take usual times to make. Items that are +1 (20% chance) are not common. Gormal speaks with a dabbing tenor voice.   Labhrann and Fionnlasdan Have worked together since they apprenticed with the Eorl’s Armourer. They each have their specialty and this combination of skills brings their customers almost the best in town and the most expensive in town prices. They are neither arrogant nor boastful about their work. They simply continue to improve and will one day become the Eorl’s armourers. Most armour is available and it's at least +1 with some pieces available at +2 and if commissioned a +3 or better can be made to order. Labhrann and Fionnlasdan speak with a Flicking baritone voice, they also have a habit of finishing each other’s sentences.   Weaponsmith Best is reserved for the High Chief and booked months in advance. The others are in the town past the square on the road leading up to the hill fort.   Potters Heartbreak Tavern Run by the cooks wife, Moire Ròs, just off the Market square is where many of the town’s artisans come to celebrate or just rest after a long day with an ale or mead and a bowl of good stew. The cook, Àaron Ròs, is exceptional and has been known to provide feasts for the college and the temple. Prices are fair considering the quality of the food and drinks which are well above all but the Eorl’s. Both Moire and Àaron are accommodating but firm with their clientele. They have no time for drunks and bullies. Their son Eòran is a very large lad (6’3”) despite only being 16 years old and has very easily thrown out ‘bad’ customers.   Lightning Bolt Tavern Behind the college of light, Mairenn Nolani is an ex-student of the college who felt she was not being given a fair chance (actually she is a lazy student but brilliant at maths). Knows all of the gossip of the school and the temple and some of their secrets. Regulars are students from both the college and the temple as well as some of the seniors and teachers or priests occasionally.   Golden Plum Tavern Beside the orchards, Àaron Ròs is the owner, and has been for over 30 years. He and his family enjoy the locals and friendships that have been created. Sometimes even the Eorl drops in for a drink. Many of the town's Foresters come here. Food and drink are average. It's the company and music that is exceptional here and what welcomes all that stay for more than a quick bite or drink.
