Greetings my fellow Swamp stew lovers. I know how hard it can be to find a good swamp stew like granfroggy used to make. Lucky for you I have found the perfect recipe that will bring you back to your tadpole days.
These recipes are one of my favorites because they really capture the earthy feeling that swamp stew is supposed to have. To really get the most from these recipes you need to make sure that you are using only the oldest and most decomposed ingredients.
Swamp Fly Stew
The classic swamp stew. This stew will warm your coldblooded heart with its fragrant smells and earthy tastes. To make this delicious recipe you will need
- 4 liters of organic swamp water
- 1kg of flies (best if live)
- 500g of old decomposing ferns
- 2 large iris flowers or similar swamp flowers
- First take the swamp water and heat it to a sow simmer.
- Once the water begins to bubble slowly mix in the ferns.
- Add the flies into the bubbling mixture and make sure they don't escape.
- let the mixture cool. Even better if you can bury it in the ground. Wait for 1 hour.
- When ready de-petal the flowers and sprinkle them on top before serving.
Swamp Log Stew
While the classic fly stew is the most well known. Many Aouli these days are trying to cut out insects and other meats from their diet. As such here is a wonderful alternative to the classic swamp stew. I guarantee you'll enjoy it just as much as the original version!
- 4 liters of organic swamp water
- 1kg decomposing log
- 500g of old decomposing ferns
- 2 large iris flowers or similar swamp flowers
The directions for this are nearly identical however there is a bit of extra work when dealing with the log.
- First take the swamp water and heat it to a sow simmer.
- Once the water begins to bubble slowly mix in the ferns.
- Chop of the log into manageable sections and then add it to the mixture.
- Let the logs soak into the bubbling mixture for 30 minutes.
- Let the mixture cool. Even better if you can bury it in the ground. Wait for 1 hour.
- When ready de-petal the flowers and sprinkle them on top before serving.
Now you know how to make the most delicious swamp stew. It will make a perfect addition to your cooking library and I guarantee it will be a crowd pleaser for the little ones at home.
