Major Organizations

The Holy Church of the Swamp is the ruling religion for all of the Aouli. Though only the swamp Aouli put much stock in its authority.

Major Language Groups and Dialects

The Aoulian language is a dialect of Aquan. A croaking guttural laguage that can be extremely difficult to communicate in. Those who speak Aquan often find Aoulian to be easier to speak as it is more rooted in the material plane and less of an elemental language.

History

The Aouli are one of the Feravir, races of humanoid animal races. A frog-like people the Aouli often have a close connection with nature. They consider themselves to all be descended from Ka'mehalua. Early in their history the Aouli began to spread out. Keeping away from the other races they preferred to build their settlements in forests or swamps and away from cities. Throughout the centuries a few distinct groups of Alouli came about. these are the Swamp Aouli, Tree Aouli, Desert Aouli, and the recently created, Snow Aouli.

Swamp Aouli

Considered to by some to be the original Aouli, they live among the swamps and marshlands of Westreach. While nearly all Aouli follow The Holy Church of the Swamp, the swamp Aouli have been chosen as the majority of its leadership for nearly its entire existence. They are friendly, and hospitable but not very welcoming of different cultures. While they may welcome you into their hoe they won't make any special accomodations for you while you are there.

Tree Aouli

In the jungles of the Mercurian Subcontinent live the Tree Aouli. unlike their swampy cousins, these Aouli have adapted to the dangerous jungle life with brightly colored skin and a thin layer of poisonous film over their hide. They make their settlements in the trees make excellent hunters. Very few people have seen a Tree Aouli as they don't go out into the world very often. Rather than worship the swamp itself they worship the trees and nature. As this is still technically a part of the swamp the tree Aouli are content to let them be.

Desert Aouli

Whereas the swamp and tree Aouli are frog-like in their appearance, the desert Aouli are much more toad-like. They make their homes in mudholes or dark caves. they can be found mostly on the continent of Tralkan. They live their lives as desert nomads traveling from water hole to water hole and raising sheep and other livestock. The swamp Aouli barely tolerate their vague worship of the swamp. The desert Aouli worship the earth and mud which is just barely justifiable for worsiping the swamp.

Arctic Aouli

A new race of Aouli appeared recently that can survive on icy cold mountains. Sadly there was only ever one of these Aouli and he ascended to godhood before he could reproduce.
