As a Universal cataclysm strikes at the very fabric of reality across time and space, an unsuspecting Earth is struck by the waves and tears in reality. Portals leading into what are known as "astral" planes begin to form across the globe, tearing the earth asunder and leaving behind a torn planet held by the very source of the cataclysm. The fiery core of the planet bursting with radiation creating storms as violent as the worst hurricanes and earth quakes like no other.   Humanity faces extinction and with the coming of the beings from the Astral planes, new societies emerge from the wreckage of the previous civilizations that once stood in its place. Two strongholds of human power stand tall amidst the chaos, while settlements suffer or struggle to survive.   Crowhaven, the first stronghold, is a dilapidated city of a few millions of human souls, supported by thousands of newly arrived astrals from a Tear lingering in its skies. The state of Crowhaven is murky and inhospitable, but its advantage lies in the burg of Rook's Square, the port town of the City itself. Crowhaven survives off fishing and other trades with outside settlements via the Sea of Ghost, a dreaded and dark watered expanse of water inhabited by the Kelpie. A race of sea dwelling cannibals.   The sister state of Crowhaven is known as Eagle's Rest, a city of glimmer and radiance. It boasts an astonishing amount of population, however the Rest is often assaulted by the ever encroaching assaults by the beastmen and monsters that lurk within the Blackwoods, the forest that marks the border between Crowhaven and Eagle's Rest. The Eaglelite population is devout in its worship of the God of Light and Flame, Ignisia. Whom they believe is punishing Humanity for allowing creatures of the Tears to walk the lands of Eorertha and soil its lands and further break the world.   Due to Eagle's Rest in-land position, compared to Crowhaven's which is beside the Sea of Ghost, the city of Glimmer and Radiance requires the despotic city's trade to gain the resources it needs to prepare its inevitable crusade. But the tense friendship of the King of the Rest and the Lord of Crowhaven make for an uneasy time of peace.   Surely, upon one or the other's death, war will come.
